Every week, one of his acts just completely dumbfounds me! And this week you completely won it over for me over Little Mix. You have been consistently brilliant! And extremely versatile! At the moment, you, Adam and Ella (although Rachel and LM are extremely close to this) have completely wowed me. This song is just incredible especially for your vocal. It’s just so funky and so suitable. AHH! David, you make me mad with how good of a mentor you can be sometimes. This week Melanie has completely won me over over the girls! Oh my god…gobsmacked…speechless…where did that come from. Oh it’s Ella! This is just normal her! This is such an incredible song and Liz McClarnon’s version is the one I grew up listening to as a child. So for Ella to do her version would be incredible. And she did it. Hitting all sorts of notes in the process. It was so beautiful. Those lyrics Ella speak to me of various emotions, pain, joy and lust! And I feel your vocal encompasses that all! This competition is not all about who can sing with the most versatility. I always said I would do a song back in Ella’s comfort zone and she didn’t disappoint. I can remember your performances of your sweet performance of ‘The Secret is Love’, the incredible magic that was ‘I See You’ and the fun and crazily addictive ‘Dance with Me’ and I think this goes right up there with those crazy vocal performances you do but it was so amazingly beautiful as well. It was an incredible vocal and a beautiful song. I thought you also did the perfect mix today, one uptempo song with a ballad. It could have been really easy to do another number 1 but Ella hasn't done a performance recently which has focused on her vocals (I wanted vocal-focused performances for both Ella, Adam).
When we get to two songs, I always like having a bit of variety and that's what I've done with Adam and Ella. One song in one style, one song in another. With Ella it was dance/trans now a proper ballad. With Adam, it was dub/electric and now it's a good old uptempo pop song which demonstrates he can sing as well as do pretty much anything else.

I don't know if I should enter this discussion, but in my opinion mentoring in these games in never about picking mainstream or indie songs. It's about finding songs that fit your acts as well as possible, and it just so happens that indie songs do just that as there's simply loads more of them.
