Favourites:I really like Frankie Boyle, Peter Kay, Johnny Vegas, Alan Carr, Joan Rivers.

    Not too keen on:
Lee Mack, Sarah millican, Miranda hart, Shappy corsandi.. i really dont get all the fuss. And Catherine tate is the most unfunny she just makes me cringe. Jo brand is ok though,
I never seem to find women funny (im a woman myself) in comedy although Joan Rivers is an exeption i think shes great :)

    American:

    Bill Hicks
    Richard Pryor
    Chris Rock
    Joan Rivers

    British:

    Dave Allen
    Mike Reid*
    Jimmy Jones
    Spike Milligan
Rik Mayall & Ade Edmondson (Young Ones/Dangerous Brothers/Bottom only)
French & Saunders (in their day)
    Harry Enfield (in his day)
    Lily Savage (in 'her' day)
    Kathy Burke
    Jo Brand
    Dave Spikey
    Johnny Vegas
    Bill Bailey
    Noel Fielding

*Saw the late, great Mike Reid perform once around the time of the Ian Botham pot-smoking 'scandal' (late 80's?) I was sitting right next to the stage and he pinched a ciggie off me, took a drag, spluttered and said "F@ck me, who did ya get these off? Ian Botham?" What made it even funnier for us was the fact there actually was a small lump of puff in the bottom of the box. ;)

Ricky Gervais (although I consider Science to be extremely weak)
Lee Evans (seeing live for a second time this year :D)

Jim Jeffries is my current favourite
Rich Hall - he is best as guest commentator on shows and his books have left me in stitches

I agree with some of the old timers from previous posts - George Carlin, Richard Pryor and I will add Redd Foxx to that.

Michael McIntyre - I have sat through a couple of his shows and have yet to even crack a smile - too fluffy for my tastes

I don't get Michael McIntyre either! I think he's a really nice fella ... he just isn't funny.

Me neither. On total one trick pony who has cashed in on being Ronnie Corbett's love child.

My all time favourite is George Carlin who was better than Hicks in my opinion, and I always thought it unfair that he had noweher near the profile in this country as Bill. Although that said I do love Bill Hicks! Dara O'Brien is also very good, his audience interaction is second to none.

And my controversial opinion of the month is....

I can't stand Stewart Lee!! I saw him live and he's just not funny. He used to be funny; Fist of Fun was ace, but now he's just bitter and pretentious. He tries to be the British Bill Hicks, but Bill was funny and had genuine love for what he thought humanity was capable of. His anger came from the fact we were wasting our potential. Lee just sneers at his audience for not being as intelligent as he perceives himself to be, then rants about comedians that are more successful than him, His last show Vegetavle Stew was just awful. And he released an anotated book of his stand up routines which is just about the most pretentious thing a stand-up could do.

Lee's onstage persona isn't real though; he's playing a character.

Comedians who take routines way further than anyone else has the nerve to go.

    Bill Hicks

"Killer idea" - terminally ill people should be used as stuntmen in movies. "Your Grammy's out of her misery and you've seen the greatest movie of all time". He was still performing this routine after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

    Chris Rock

I love Black people but I HATE N****s

    Bob Monkhouse
Obsessive collector of jokes and comedy material - his archive has performances that were wiped by the TV companies.
Went on Parkinson doing jokes about his own diagnosis with terminal prostate cancer.

    Mark Thomas
    Activist

Russell Brands routines about his own over inflated ego are getting there.
