    Hello.

They're two totally unrelated services on two totally different consoles and thus won't interfere with each other.

Are you connecting the PS3 wirelessly or Wired? (the PS3 has built in wireless so no need for an adapter).

To connect via a wireless connection:

    1. Click Settings in the Home menu, then Network Settings.

    2. Click Internet Connection Settings.

    3. A message will pop up saying that you will be disconnected from the Internet. Choose Yes.

    4. Choose Wireless Connection.

    5. Now choose Scan. Your PlayStation 3 will now search for any available access points and show these in a list.

(Simply click on Automatic if the access point you are using supports automatic setup - it SHOULD have automatic available, but if it doesnt go to step 6)

    6. From the list of access points choose one which you’d like to use (your wireless router name)

    7. Check the SSID for the access point, press the right button. If you don’t know what the SSID is then you should contact the person who setup or runs the access point for more information.

    8. Select the security method necessary, press the right button.

    9. Enter the encryption key. (you might not need to do this if you have no security on your wireless connection :) ) This will be shown as a series of asterisks (*). If you don’t know what the encryption key is you should contact the person who setup or runs the access point for more information.

    10. Now press the right button.

    11. Choose either Easy (this is the best option) or Custom and adjust the settings.

Easy - the basic settings are automatically set.
Custom – you will need to enter the settings manually.

    12. Now click Save.

    13. If you want to you can now test your wireless connection by clicking Test Connection. If the connection isn’t successful you should follow the instructions which will appear, to check your settings.

Here's the official guide with pictures:
http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/3_15/settings/connectwireless.html The WEP that the guide enters is the password for the Wireless connection of your router - so if you have no security enabled then you select "None".

Both my PS3 & XBOX 360 work perfectly happily with my wireless router (i use a BTHomeHub2)

However if my XBOX 360 is turned on and logged into XBOX Live downloading something and im playing online on the PS3 i get bad lag (Modern Warfare 2 is a good example)

    No problem.

I personally just clicked "Scan", picked my network, and boom. Connected.

Ahh yeah that makes sense. The PS3 itself (possibly same with 360) if it was downloading something and you go online, it pauses the download. However both the 360 and PS3 arent interested in one another and one or the other will obviously continue to download

Just one further bit of advice for setting up wireless, as this caused problems for me when setting it up.

Dependent on your router, if the above instructions don't seem to work, go into 'system information' and find out what your PS3's MAC code is. You may need to put that into your router's admin settings.
