The Millenium Trilogy films were well done but I've not seen the Daniel Craig film so can't compare the different versions.
It's not bad, but I felt it was a bit too much "by the numbers". Daniel Craig never really felt like he was playing anyone other than Daniel Craig. Rooney Mara was superb though, even though her accent kept changing in every other scene. I'd still watch the other films if they ever decided to make them though.
England v Sweden - enjoyed that drama - it started well, fell away badly during the middle but had a great twist and kept me biting my nails to the end.
Worked out who the killer was early on, After several red herrings I began to doubt myself. But then as we neared the final few eps I realised I had got it right. I think the plaster on Gerrard's neck was the clue.
I've watched most of Wallander (the newer series rather than... whatever the first one was, I really don't understand the whole structure of those series), all of The Bridge, all of Borgen, all of Killing 2 (aside from the third to last episode grrr) and I'm now quickly getting through the Killing 1 boxset which I'm loving.
I can't decide which is my favourite between Borgen and The Bridge. I couldn't stop watching either of them, especially the final 2 hours of The Bridge. Is wish they'd hurry up and show Borgen 2.
I can't help but be disappointed that I've been watching all these shows for years and I still haven't heard ANY songs from Melfest or MGP in the background!

Then came the Krister Henriksson TV series(2005-2010). 2 seasons of 13 episodes each. The first episode was based on the novel Before the Frost. Mankell wrote this as a Linda Wallander centric book. It was the first of a supposed trilogy. But he abandoned the other two after what happened to Johanna Sällström. All the other eps were specially written by Mankell. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallander_(Swedish_TV_series))
There is a final Wallander novel called the Troubled Man. Someone has reported in the Wallander S2 thread that Krister is filming this at the moment, along with five other brand new stories. Scheduled to be shown in 2013.

When I saw the title, "euro dramas", I first thought it's about the Greek (etc.) financial situation
But as for the tv shows, I liked Borgen, too; but my favourite Nordic crime drama by far is the Danish "Lulu & Leon", has anyone else here seen it..? It was brilliant.
I'd recommend getting the novel Let the Right One In as well. I know some people say read the book, then watch the Swedish film version. But I did it in the order of Swedish film, novel, US version. And I would recommend this way.
There is an interesting commentary on the DVD of LTROI. It's from the Director and Screenwriter(who wrote the book). Well worth a listen.

nope, never heard of it - what's the rough gist of it?

As a rule I prefer to watch any film first before reading the novel - I get frustrated with a lot of things I've enjoyed reading when they're converted to the screen.

I'm the other way around. I'm a bit of a source material snob!

You'll come in very handy sbrum! I'll be picking your brains a lot on here. I didn't even realise Let Me In was a US re-make. I thought (and hoped) it might be the Swedish sequel to LTROI.

I'll do my best, although my brain is pretty ravaged!
I am looking forward to the Millennium Trilogy transferred to graphic novel form - but I'm a comic book geek so that figures!

Thanks, I hadn't realised it was based on a book. My kindle queue is getting a bit low at the moment, so this will hit the spot nicely. Have you tried any of his other books as well?

Well, it's basically about a long-standing couple of which the male is, or has been, a criminal; he's supposed to have left that behind as they finally get married, but really hasn't, and they get entangled in something big that ends up threatening everything they have (hope this wasn't too much of a spoiler!)... Their two kids are also heavily involved. Imo was quite thrilling, real and surreal at the same time.
Just watched the first episode repeated on the Finnish YLE and enjoyed it a lot! And it has Pernille Birk-Larsen starring (she is really funny too!) as well as Søren Pilmark, of course one of the Eurovision hosts in 2001. Let's hope our British broadcasters will not just pick dramas, as this one seems great too.
Will check out Rosetta12 recommendation next
Couple of Finnish thrillers that look interesting too (would be good to hear if they are any good):
Oooh, this is interesting! Seeing as the DS mods don't know what to do with us, maybe we can have a "TV: Euro" forum where we can hide all the Eurovision + Euro crime threads - that way, I'd never need to leave here
That is such a great idea, has anybody put this to the DS management yet?
I think I watched a few episodes of the first one; that was quite a while ago, but I think it was quite good. (Do you know Finnish, btw, or how can you watch them, I'm intrigued..?)

Yes, am Finnish and there is this fab thing called TV-Kaista Internet TV that works all over the world, you have to pay for it though. I think the copyrights people are not totally happy with it, but they have been going on for years now anyway.

The original version had Lina Leandersson (great name!) and Kåre Hedebrant.

There are two ''versions'' of Swedish Wallander.
First came the Rolf Lassgard films - 1994-2007. These are films based on the novels. There are nine in all.

Thanks to semajdrof for the brand new info.
I'd still like to see it but I'm not in a hurry to.
Thanks sbrum. Let Me In is on the to-watch list too.

Cast news as well. Charlotta Jonsson plays the Inspector's daughter according to the above??
Afternoon all
Fab scenery.
Thought the rape scene was brilliant - it needed to be said.
But the serial killings
I will be glad to wallow in a bit of good old fashioned light neurosis this evening.

Evening minkski cracking film isn't it?
Lisbeth's revenge is more to my taste! Not bad ink work for a beginner.

Love that cover. I wonder if they're doing it as a poster...
As with most things I love, I get terribly behind on keeping up with them. I will be buying the graphic novel.
I don't remember seeing a solicitation for a poster of that cover but I'll keep an eye out.
Here's a short teaser of the 1st episode:

Love that opening theme song by the Raveonettes (All of the soundtrack, actually.)
Hope they will show it in the UK, too, one day!
