Porridge is one of the best situation comedy of all time.
The actors Ronnie Barker, Richard Beckinsale, Fulton MacKay and Brian Wilde who played
Fletcher, Godber, Mr MacKay and Mr Barrowclough could not have been better chosen.
I can't imagine anyone else playing these characters but if there was a remake who could play Fletch and co. Mine would be:-

Mark Addy ( Fletcher )

Ralph Little ( Godber )

Gregor Fisher ( Mr MacKay )

Craig Cash ( Mr Barrowclough )

    My jaw just dropped.

A remake of Porridge would be horrible. A remake of Porridge with Peter Kay replacing Ronnie would be a disgrace.

    Fletcher = Lenny Henry
    Alan Carr=Godber
    Rona Cameron = Ms Mackay.
    Stephen Merchant = Mr Barrowclough

I'm sure that would pass the BBC diversity office.

I agree, the original was so perfectly written, cast and produced that it would be a disgrace to try and tamper with it. I suspect that any actor with half a brain would not want to get involved in a remake because they would know it could not be bettered and they would not want to be associated with the inevitable disaster.

    Yawn.

The only way to do it would be like with Reginald Perrin and totally change the ethos.

To try and 'copy' it would be wrong.

I was horrified last year when I heard there was a stage version on tour. Fletch was played by Shaun Williamson (aka Barry from Eastenders). I never saw it but to be fair he received excellent reviews as did the show itself.

No more remakes. You cannot recreate the same quality of cast.

I saw it, it was food fun and "barry " played it well, but it was like going to Singalong the sound of music or something. You were just waiting for the killer lines and resisting the urge to join in.

After reading the title I was thinking that they'd probably cast someone stupid and I was thinking of double acts such as Horne and Corden.

It's sounds awful, but that's what they'd do these days :D

Admit it, Peter Kay now sounds a good choice :p

Surely Alan Carr would be Lukewarm??

Peter Kay was offered the role of Fletcher in the stage adaptation of 'Porridge'. He turned it down, saying he could never follow in Ronnie Barker's footsteps. Shaun Williamson got the role instead. I saw the play in Hull and I thought it was very well done indeed, with some really clever set changes. Shaun and the play got very good reviews.

I agree a remake would be a mistake, but perhaps Ricky Tomlinson would make an alternative Fletch?

Okay, if not Porridge how about a remake of Faulty Towers with Frankie Boyle and Sarah Millican.
