Currently I think it would be out of Boyonce, Perry, Gaga and Rihana. Madonna without a doubt will always be a legend. Kylie? Dont make me laugh. Apart from Australia Britain and japan she is small fish.
A shout for Shakira just for her youtube views. Phenonemol. According to my two teenage daughters Taylor Swift and Adele shoud get a mention.

Even at the peak of her career in the 1980s Madonna was never as big as Michael Jackson. Thriller, the biggest selling album in history, has sold upwards of 65 million copies worldwide, it took Madonna four albums in the 1980s to achieve sales like that (Madonna, Like a Virgin, True Blue, Like a Prayer). Michael also took home a record-breaking eight Grammy awards in one year including the major and all-important Record and Album of the Year, two categories Madonna has never won in, in fact she was only nominated for three Grammy awards in total in the 1980s, none of them in major categories. Thriller has sold over 29 million copies in the US to date, that's nearly half of what Madonna has sold in total in the US to date with all of her albums (64 million).

Michael has had multiple Studio album sell over 30 million copies worldwide (Thriller, Bad, Dangerous) whereas not one of Madonna's twelve studio albums (not a greatest hits album) has sold 30 million or more copies worldwide (Whitney and Celine Dion have achieved it twice, Mariah Carey, Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain have achieved it once). Michael was also the first person to ever have five number one singles taken from one album (Katy Perry later matched the record), Madonna, even at the peak of her career, never managed more than three off of one album (Mariah and Whitney both had four). He's also had more #1 singles on the Hot 100 than Madonna. The Bad Tour is also the second highest grossing tour of the 1980s, while the 1996-1997 HIStory Tour grossed over $165 million and was attended by 4.5 million people, the largest tour attendance ever by a solo artist (Tina Turner's Break Every Rule Tour holds the record for a female artist, bringing in over 4 million people.). Who knows how much Michael would have grossed on a recent tour had he lived.

What's really impressive is Michael Jackson has sold nearly a 180 million albums worldwide with just Off the Wall, Triller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory and Invincible. Madonna has sold an estimated 200 million albums with 12 studio albums, three soundtracks, four compilation albums, two remix albums and four live albums.
