Bump this thread up for the Masters as BBC and Sky coverage starts today. BBC Preview on after newsnight. Again Wayne Grady has been dropped in favour of Paul Azinger.

Was Wayne dropped then ? I just thought they were using an American alongside their, what now seems, first choice trio - Allis, Brown and Cotter

Looks like it, he wasn't at the Open. Can't say he was that great.

I wonder how long Peter Allis will go on for. I still rate him highly but "Young Kenneth" must be waiting in the wings to take over

Yep, "'Masters Breakfast' begins on Thursday at 9am on Sky Sports 4 and is repeated on the same channel at 2pm."

    From here: http://www1.skysports.com/masters/story/24503/9231520

Don't forget to make use of our Red Button services. From Thursday April 10 you can watch live coverage from Amen Corner, Featured Groups 1&2, On the Range, Holes 15&16 and rolling highlights of all the day's action just by pressing your red button.

    1. Does anyone know what time this extra coverage starts?

    2. Was it in HD last year and will it be in HD this year (i remember red button streams in HD for the Ryder cup i think)?

    3. Can it be recorded like NFL Redzone and PL Match Choice and if so what should i search for (epg search for masters was fruitless)?

    4. How do Sky free up the transponder space to show additional HD streams and is there the possibility of this becoming something more permanent in the future (would be useful to have access to a couple of recordable HD streams on a weekend)?

    Thanks for any help.

Correct myself, 5pm is the main feature groups. There is other bits and bobs such as Amen corner from 3.45

BREAKING NEWS: Sky agrees multi-year deal to show all four days of the Masters live from 2015.

    More details:

    - Sky Sports only place to see all four days live.
    - Exclusive live coverage of first two rounds and the Par 3 Contest.
    - Extra coverage on red button, website and tablets.
    - Highlights from each day's play on Masters Breakfast.

Presumably this means BBC have retained days three and four live...

Have I missed the bit on that page where it tells you how long for?

No, they just seem to be referring to it as a 'multi-year' deal. Which is strange.

Perhaps there is an option to extend the deal beyond the initial length, although this shouldn't stop Sky from stating the initial length.

    This shows either:

    1. The strength of Sky ability to negotiate extension to existing deals.

    or

    2. That golf isn't a top priority for BT.

Sky don't do red button HD nor red button recordable HD

This is not something they have any interest in

They don't even say anything about HD anymore
Lowering quality of SD to make HD look better apparently too.

In the past we have been uncertain re the duration of Masters TV deals - we didn't know for quite some time that the current deal went to 2014.

I think the Masters Committee likes to keep some matters like this quiet - it may be that it's been agreed not to announce the length of the deal.

Very good for the BBC if they have retained R3 and R4 live.

I think this has to be considered a little bit of a disappointment for Sky in the sense that taking all 4 days exclusively live was one of the very most obvious high profile rights acquisitions that they could have made and might have been looking to make given the loss (and likely future loss) of other rights to BT.

    A bit of both really.

With Sky already having the PGA Tour to 2022 and the European Tour to 2018 then BT has no opportunity for regular golf.

They could have still tried to acquire rights to the majors - they would be very high profile individual events but probably doesn't make much sense without the prospect of regular golf.

In contrast, Sky would have been very keen to retain the Masters.

Ryder Cup red button was HD. For The Masters they're taking the SD Internet feeds.

Picture isn't too bad; would be nice to be able to record though (a lot of red button streams are recordable).

SOTB reporting that BBC has retained R3 and R4 live in new deal.

Includes quote from Slater (nothing yet on BBC website).

I wouldnt have thought it would make much sense for Sky to pay over the odds for all 4 days. If you're a golf fan you will probably have Sky (if you can afford it) and I doubt that just two days a year extra exclusive golf would get many new subscribers in.
