lol beaten to it again! Was just going to post about this brilliant news as it does seem that finally we will be getting that long talked about sequel. Not sure how many of the original cast will be in it though but definitely no Mara Wilson as she has said straight out that she won't be involved

If they are going to do it, I'd prefer if they rebooted it, and made it like this -

Brilliant news! tbh Robin is the only actor from the original who is 100% needed in order for this work so new actors won't harm it imo. I wonder how they will work out a storyline though? but Its going to be so funny though :D

They've left it too late. This has Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull written all over it.

Potential box office smash but weak weak outcome.

hopefully it will be as good as the original although I think it has been too long since the first and how many good comedy sequels are there?

I remember a few years ago Robin saying there was a sequel in the works but he pulled out because he didn't think the plot was good enough.... something to do with Doubtfire keeping an eye on his daughter at college. Which did sound a bit sh!t so it'll be interesting to see what they've come up with this time.

Please no, this film doesn't need a sequel thank-you. You just know it is not going to live up to the first one.

It might not live up to the first, but it has the makings of and potential to be a good, entertaining film - especially with some of the original team on board.

Perhaps Robin Williams now works in security with the royal family and has to dress up to participate in or prevent a robbery or something.

Hmmmmm I feel this is abit like The Goonies and should be left well alone. Mrs Doubtfire along side The Goonies is a film I grew up with and have fond memories watching it as a chip with my family. I think it's either going to really good or really bad but I'll reserve judgement until it's out

Hands up who was crying out for this sequel?

Explain to me why it's necessary? The first one was a fun romp, with a comedic metaphor for the very real situation of parents breaking up. The movie ends with both Mum and Dad having changed significantly, and even hints that because of this change, they can work aside their differences and even reconcile, or at least remain civil.

Aside from this, you have a really fun, 90s kids movie, staring one of the best actors.

Explain to me where a sequel can take these characters. I foresee two things; they have Mrs Doubtfire hanging around a college (sounds crap), or they just re-hash the first movie with his grandkids (sounds lazy). Either way, IMHO, this movie really isn't needed.

Some stories (shockingly!) manage to conclude in the space of a single film. I think this is one of them and I don't see where else they can go with it. It wasn't just about "crazy old lady that's actually a man." If that's all the original was, then it wouldn't be all that great. It was the surprisingly bleak story of a family breakup, juxtaposed against the "comedy granny," that made it a good film.

But that story was resolved in the original and now that we're twenty years on, I'm not quite sure where it could go and retain that emotional centre.

    20 years too late though.

Must be for the money can't see any other reason?

Mara Wilson, who played little Natalie Hillard in the original, has already said she knows nothing about the sequel and will not be having anything to do with it. So, a full cast reunion isn't gonna happen. Wonder if it'll even involve Pierce Brosnan or Sally Field?
