Lassie Come Home (the original one)
Phar Lap, or to be more precise the version shown on the BBC years ago, the Aussie (original) version is different, and not so weepy

Got to be one of the saddest films I've ever seen! It was a very good film but I don't think I could ever watch it again

    New Moon

    Bear with me...

    I cried at this scene

The reason being was that I had been feeling depressed for 2 years, but couldn't bring myself to admit it to anyone. Talking seemed like the hardest thing in the world. The people around me knew but didn't know how to approach me; I'd pushed them away enough as it was.

Strangely, it's only when I had had some intense counselling and I was 'back to normal' that I realised what I'd put them through. I was pretty much letting time pass by for 2 years, which is reflected in this scene. I felt completely numb while watching it. I never thought in a million years that I would be able to relate to that character.

It was the music that accompanied the scene too that made me cry.

The first film I remember crying in was The Greatest Story Ever Told. I went to see it in the cinema as a kid and the lights came up for an intermission half way through just after Lazarus rises. I recall being embarrassed having to go to the usherette for ice cream as I couldn't stop crying!

Otherwise the ones which immediately spring to mind:

The Snowman(!) Yes, I cry at the end every single time I watch it.
    The Green Mile
    Ben Hur
    Spartacus
Cinema Paradiso - as soon as the music starts I'm in floods over that one as for some reason to me it has a real emotional resonance. And at the end when you get the compilation of all the censored movie clips - all the kisses - I'm like a wreck.

    Ah, me.

    Another vote for Spartacus.

Regarding my previous post they were all happy tears but Spartacus has to be the saddest tear jerker.

I too used to pride myself on being a real man who never cried over a movie. But then, one day, i was coherst into watching 'Curly bloody Sue'

Now I seem to come over all emotional at the slightest thing.

When I was a kid I always used to cry when the dinosaur or monster died at the end of those sort of films, I remember the end of Valley Of Gwangi in particular had me in floods of tears!

Now that I'm a big tough bloke I obviously never ever get emotional at films. It's purely a coincidence that I only ever watch Schindlers List, The Green Mile or even the likes of Gladiator and Braveheart when I'm on my own. I don't know why though, my wife blubs at bloody Coronation Street
