Annabel Giles pleading poverty

I find this woman up-herself, opinionated and very sorry for herself when I have seen her on The Wright Stuff. She moaned about being on benefits, not being able to get a job because of her age and not having any qualifications to do anything (she was also in I'm a Celebrity) but she always looked well turned-out. She was married to the millionaire Ultravox singer Midge Ure and I think she used to be a model, so she must have had money. She now fears she is going to be made homeless as she is struggling being jobless and not qualified to do anything except "show off" for a living. She couldn't manage on the minimum wage - and she is sick of fighting to survive. Sorry but I am sure a lot of people would love to have the chance to get the fees that she got from being on I'm a Celebrity and being on TWS.

Know nothing about her financial situation but she was a thoroughly nasty person on IACGMOOH. She's able bodied so nothing stopping her from getting a cleaning job or something...

She probably thinks she is too grand to do cleaning - she sounds so affected when she speaks as she wants to sound so posh.

No sympathy for people who have had money and frittered it all away living a lavish lifestyle.

Before the poor woman gets bashed to death it may be worthwhile to note that a lot of her money worries come from caring for her autistic son.

The voice of reason. Just because somebody had some money when they were young it doesn't necessarily mean it will last them the rest of their life. This scenario could happen to any of us and we don't know that she 'frittered it away', the money could have gone just on ordinary living expenses.
Why are people so unsympathetic on this forum?

There are plenty of people out there in the real world caring for autistic children under much tougher circumstances than this moaning has-been. She could get several jobs, like cleaning, admin or shop work, but she probably thinks she's 'too good' for that.

She wants to think herself lucky she can get a few hundred quid at least by just appearing on TV moaning about how hard up she is.

Cleaning often pays less than benefits, there's no point coming off benefits for less money.

    Great insights here.

You must all be either psychics, accountants or celebrity agents.

    Or maybe all three.

    God, I envy you.....

Yes, I agree completely. There are so many people who do not have the same platform as this self-pitying woman to whinge about their hardships. They have to get on with it, like so many people do. They have not had the opportunities that this woman has had.

I don't think she came across as thoroughly nasty at all.

Ifshe works 24 hours a week or more she'd get working tax credit and child tax credit to top up her wages.

She wasn't thoroughly nasty at all. She has written several times about her desperate struggle to get her son into a school where he is not bullied on a daily basis because of his autism. She got a lot of publicity a couple of years ago (a lot of it nasty) when she wrote about how she had had to sell her house to pay for her son to go to a school that specialised in autism. She has also written about her struggle with severe depression. I like her. She sounds a bit fragile, but she has had a lot to deal with.

She is training as a therapist, but it is a three year course and she will start from nothing when she has graduated, as most people do. Easy when you are 20, not so easy in your 50's.

Autism has variations in degrees, Ted Giles has XYY syndrome, she has brought him up alone. The money she gets on tv is vital, I am sure. Her work experience is modelling and TV work.
    Syndrome Status for the XYY
The XXY male has long been thought to display a constellation of symptoms that makes him diagnosable; that is, he has achieved syndrome status. It would seem that the XYY male is fast achieving similar status. His symptoms, as we and other laboratories tend to think of them, are: extremely tall stature, long limbs and strikingly long arm span, facial acne, mild mental retardation, severe mental illness (including psychosis) and aggressive, antisocial behavior with a long history of arrests, frequently beginning at an early age.

Who's the father, and how much has he paid?

Does anyone on Digital Spy know?

Lots of jobs pay less than some of the generous benefits some choose to live on; doesn't mean those professions should become obsolete.

Erm, you appear on reality TV for a fee & show your true colours, viewers will have an opinion...which they're fully entitled to. Otherwise the format of that particular show doesn't work...and in her case she was quite rightly given her marching orders pretty promptly.

For the benefit of those who did not see her I'm a Celebrity, she was fine. She was a bit nervy and homesick, but sometimes very funny. She made the mistake, from the DS point of view, of falling out with one of the popular favourites, so she got a load of abuse on here.

I thought she was a hoot on I'm a Celebrity. Yes she wasn't the toughest person in there but she seemed to be able to laugh at herself and was well aware of her faults. She was sharp witted and intelligent. She is being honest about her circumstances and is clearly struggling bringing up a disabled child as a single mum. She is trying to retrain and work to support her family. What is there to criticise? Think because she is well spoken - she is being unfairly judged - as if opportunities or work should fall at her feet.

Annabel Giles will most likely have to support her son for life...and after she has gone, she will need to make sure he is okay. She will also be well away of the cuts affecting the disabled.

What should we have to back up our accents? Bearing in mind that mine is not very different. Is there some kind of panel of international accent judges who determine who is and who is not entitled to speak in various ways?

Too true. Normally you would think that someone who has been unable to work for years and has had to sell her home because of a disabled child, and who has a long history of clinical depression, would elicit some sympathy and good wishes from people. But apparently the gloves are off if someone is good looking and nicely spoken: in that case, all problems must be her own fault and worthy of contempt.
