Awful ending, I think there was too much pointless filler, and the series should have been 4 episodes long. I'm still not sure what actually happened to Ollie, which basically means the ending was poor.

I agree. 8 weeks of paedophile storylines, corruption and other unrelated stories dragged out over 8 weeks for an unresolved ending like this was ridiculous.

1 hr and 8 mins left for the biggest let down in British TV history.

Have to say this. Line of duty and endless other smart alec BBC productions bear this out

I assume the drawing of Daddy Big Ears in the ice means that Olly is alive.

Excellent series but I think it would have been more poignant to end at the wedding where they were alone.

Dreadful ending to what had been a brilliant series.

It is not all about the action etc. Half the fun is in experiencing the frustration that Tony felt when breakthroughs lead to dead ends only to finally get on the right track.

I get that, but what was the point of all that wasted time with Emily and that copper, which lasted hours of time wasting, then Malik and the pointless scenes with the pedo. I would have accepted that ending if the series was 4 episodes long focusing only on important parts. But 4 extra hours of filler merits a better ending.

For you maybe. I think the "it's about the journey" excuse is an easy excuse for dramas that disappoint.

What did you think should have been cut so The Missing could be shorter?

Devastated and so upset that Ollie is dead...or is he?

Lots of ends not tied up...disappointed with that.

Hopefully, the 2nd series will link some of the narratives. Girl n the swing with ginger hair possibly molly? Here we go again!

Tony prob drew the picture in the snow himself... we saw him drawing it on the notebook when he was talking to Julien on the phone.

I think it was Tony doing the stick figures. Didn't he doodle one while on the phone?

    Definitely

    He died as described
    The mum accepted it
The father didn't and went around saying everyone was his son.

Was a good ending, very sad but good.

So was the drawing in the frost on the Russian window just a coincidence ?

edit - just read the last two posts :)

Could have been Tony he was drawing it over and over

The episode was the worst of the series. I'm not even speaking about the ending which will have divided views. It was simply poor.

Vincent's suicide had been predicted by all and sundry. And the reveal of Olly's disappearance...

George Clooney in the final scene was good though.

Hahaha, I said from the start he reminded me of Clooney.

    This is exactly it.

    Loved it.

Tony driven mad by his non acceptance.
Tony drew the picture on the window.
(it showed in the scene before. him doodling on a pad with the "daddy bigs ears" stickman)

It was the helpless and now clearly mad Tony drawing it on the window in Russia.

Mayor killed himself because the ruthless Romanians killed Olly.

Where they buried him is immaterial

What is the point of reading what happens before watching it?

I don't like surprises. I also read the last page of mystery books before I read the rest.

That's why there's chocolate and vanilla ice cream, not everyone is alike.

I don't think so - He wouldn't still be drawing daddy big ears at age 13. I think that was drawn by a deranged Tony as he slipped further into madness.

I don't think it needed to be shorter. I'm all about the ending. Whether it's a 2 parter, 8 parter or longer (if we were in America), if the ending's disappointing, it overshadows the whole show. I don't know if disappointing is the right word to describe The Missing's ending but I'm not counting the days to Series 2.

Basically - it either ends there, with Tony having lost it, or there will be a second series.

That's about it I think, very fitting. We are kind of like Tony, we have this nagging doubt, even though evidence points to Ollie's death. I think it's brilliant.
