Newstalk's commentator on Munster v Scarlets was Dave McIntyre. They also took updates on Aston Villa v Liverpool from IRN's Kevin Hatchard as per JPM1980's post. Ger Gilroy presented Newstalk Sport Sunday with Joe Molloy co-hosting and reading the sports news.
In Spain, Talk Radio Europe and Global Radio don't seem to be doing their weekly English language commentary on Malaga, who are just kicking off at Valencia in Sunday's La Liga late game. They didn't cover Malaga's Copa del Rey tie at Getafe in the week either. Perhaps they are taking their winter break a little early.
Anyone know if there has been a resolution to the "lockout" of Spanish radio from commentating on-site at La Liga games?
Yes, but I know that Dave McIntyre commentates on football and rugby for Newstalk. There's probably a Dave McFarlane reading this wondering if he should have been at Thomond Park today. (A superb ground, incidentally which I visited in May when Munster played Connacht.)
The upcoming Saturday is a funny one what with it being Christmas Eve meaning no English league matches are taking place, but BBC Radio 5 Live are doing what I had hoped they'd be doing by focusing on the day's staggered SPL programme ahead of the Old Firm game next week.
They'll be doing full commentary on St Mirren v Rangers from 12.30pm with second half commentary on Celtic v Kilmarnock immediately after it, followed by what sounds like a half-hour Sports Report, then a documentary on the Rocky films at 4pm before an hour-long 606 with Darren Fletcher and Robbie Savage from 5pm.
talkSPORT will be doing things differently on Christmas Eve as well, with The Transfer Tavern with Georgie Bingham and Ray Parlour scheduled for 12noon-3pm and an early edition of Football First with Ian Danter and Ray Houghton going out between 3-6pm before they launch into their festive specials. I would hope talkSPORT will be covering the SPL games during these programmes, although since Mark Donaldson left Scotland to join ESPN they have only ever tended to cover Old Firm games, opening and final day SPL matches and Scottish Cup and League Cup finals and semi-finals when it comes to domestic fixtures north of the border.
Radio 5 Live are the only national station doing commentaries on Boxing Day, with four back-to-back matches during 5 Live Sport between 12noon-10.30pm. They'll be doing Chelsea v Fulham (1pm), Manchester United v Wigan Athletic (3pm), Birmingham City v West Ham United (5.30pm) and Stoke City v Aston Villa (8pm), with Derby County v Leeds United going out on 5 Live Sports Extra from 1pm.
talkSPORT don't have a commentary on Boxing Day but otherwise they are planning what would be their standard Saturday schedule, with Matchday Live presented by Adrian Durham and Ray Houghton between 12noon-5pm followed by Call Collymore from the Hawthorns (Stan will be watching West Brom v Manchester City at 3pm) from 5-7pm and Football First with Ian Danter and Alvin Martin between 7-10pm.
Tonight sees commentary on Blackburn Rovers v Bolton Wanderers carried live by Radio 5 Live with Wolves v Norwich City on Radio 5 Live Sports Extra. On Wednesday Fulham v Manchester United will be live on talkSPORT, with Radio 5 Live doing Tottenham Hotspur v Chelsea this Thursday. Radio 5 Live will be doing a talkSPORT-style Around the Grounds show on Wednesday night in the absence of a commentary game.
Absolute Radio's next commentary game is Arsenal v Queens Park Rangers at 3pm on New Year's Eve.
