I'm going to begin this thread the same way I did the 2011/12 Radio Football Commentators and Reporters thread, by posting the links to Radio Sports Commentators threads from previous seasons as a resource and means of reference:

Was there any local radio coverage of the England v Wales rugby league at Leigh? I was in North Manchester and all the usual places (BBC Radio Leeds FM/AM, Merseyside AM, Manchester didn't have it, unless I missed it somehow)

The only station doing commentary was Yorkshire Radio. 5 Live Sports Extra are doing every match expect that one because England were playing Cricket. BBC Manchester did Australia v New Zealand at Warrington but only because on Friday Night they have nowt else to cover. Saturday they had football.

If you're wondering about the relevance of the Grand Slam of Darts locally, it takes place at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall between the 12th and 20th November.

Irish station Newstalk 106-108FM have announced their scheduled commentaries from the first four rounds of the Heineken Cup pool stage:
Here are the matches we’re covering so far in the Heineken Cup. The matches will air live on Newstalk Sport Saturday & Sunday followed by plenty of comment and analysis.

    Week 1
    Saturday, 12 November 2011
    Montpellier v Leinster, Pl3, 13:30 – NT

    Week 2
    Sunday, 20 November 2011
    Bath v Montpellier, Pl3, 15:00
    Leinster v Glasgow, Pl3, 12:45 – NT

    Week 3
    Saturday 10th December 2011
    Connacht v Gloucester, Pl6, 13:30 – NT

    Sunday, 11 December 2011
    Bath v Leinster, Pl3, 12:45 – NT

    Week 4
    Sunday, 18 December 2011
    Munster v Starlets, Pl1, 12:45 – NT

    Read more: http://www.newstalk.ie/2011/sport/heineken-cup-coverage-on-newstalk/

I'd guess the listing of Bath v Montpellier from Leinster's group is a typo, as they'll surely be doing commentary on Chelsea v Liverpool in football's Premier League during the second half of that one, although it's possible they'll be taking updates on it from Talking Rugby should the agency be sending a reporter to the Rec.

Nice to see that they will be doing commentary on at least one Connacht match during their first ever Heineken Cup campaign, rather than just sticking to their bigger, more popular and successful rivals Leinster and Munster.

Talking Rugby are covering London Irish v Edinburgh (Saturday) and Saracens v Treviso (Sunday) this weekend.

Thanks for posting that. Saracens v Treviso looked an odd pick on paper to me initially, but having thought about it Saracens are the Premiership champions and one of the favourites to win the Heineken Cup, while Treviso have performed relatively well in the Magners League/Pro 12 since joining it, so this should be a decent game.

You could argue that Glasgow v Bath might have been a better pick this Sunday for Talking Rugby but as a 12.45pm kick-off, I guess it may have been deemed a little too early for many of the stations who take their updates. If that is the case, then it's likely they'll cover Bath v Montpellier rather than Leinster v Glasgow the following Sunday. I'd guess Gloucester v Harlequins will be their pick on the second Saturday of the pool stage, what with that one being the only game played on UK shores that day other than Leicester v Ulster, which as a 6pm kick-off will start after the sports shows on most of the stations who take their updates have gone off-air.

The rugby was on Radio Wales AM for at least some of the time, which was annoying as I was hoping to find commentary of Cambridge v Wrexham in the FA Cup on there.

RTE had Des Cahill (who really shouldn't be presenting Rugby matches as he knows nothing about it) presenting with Hugo MacNeill, Victor Costello & Emmett Byrne. Michael Corcoran & Donal Lenihan did that Munster v. Northampton match, didn't hear any of the Ulster game.

Mike Bovill reported from the press conference at Twickenham announcing Martin Johnson's resignation as the manager of the England national rugby union team for talkSPORT this afternoon (Wednesday 16th November), with the press conference being carried live at the beginning of Drive Time with Adrian Durham and Micky Quinn (which was pushed forward by five minutes to accommodate its 4pm start).

Really strong coverage of Johnson's departure from talkSPORT today. They got reaction from Jeff Probyn (who was a studio guest on Keys & Gray), Brian Moore (in the studio with Hawksbee & Jacobs) and Ben Kay (over the phone on Drive Time), with Bovill giving updates during all three of those shows as well as on Kick-Off.

I would've given the details for yesterday's rugby commentaries, but, thanks to AOL & TalkTalk arguing over who will supply my broadband, I'm currently without one.

Right now, I'm having to rely on a nearby unsecured wireless connection :o

Friday 18th November - BBC Radio Northampton

BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Rugby Union: Heineken Cup Pool 1
Northampton Saints v Scarlets - Alastair Eykyn, James Burridge and Robert Jones (8pm commentary)

Presumably the non-commentating commentator (Burridge during the first half, Eykyn in the second period) reported from Franklin's Gardens for Radio 5 Live.
