Seconded. Linda Henry is at the top end of the acting scale on the show, imo. And Shirley is a multilayered and interesting character. The original and best Carter, imo.
Definitely! She's supposed to be unlikeable, to the characters, but likeable to the audience, if that makes sense? It's hard to explain:D.
Because the character has a lot of links to the square and has so many layers, it's easier to invest in the character, compared to Linda for example.

It does make sense. I think Shirley can be both, she is abrasive but also has that softer side too. She has so different many facets, (which Linda Henry plays brilliantly), and she works with so many different characters. I couldn't imagine EastEnders without Shirley now.
I recognize the name so I think she has written before but I can't recall any of her episodes?
According to imbd she's been an EE writer since 2005! 58 episodes, from a very quick scan I can't see she's wrote any particularly big eps but that's just going off dates and I'm hardly Rain Man. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2254097/

And I completely agree.

Is Wendy Granditer another new writer? I don't remember her name.

Buster returns - and asks Shirley to move to Greece.
