Emeli Sande. One of the most beautiful tones to a voice I have heard. Amy Winehouse and Adele are joint second.

Emeli and Leona sound quite similar to me. I think Leona has better songs though.

At the moment I'd say Alexandra Burke is my favourite vocalist in the UK. She has a lovely tone.

I really like Gabrielle Aplin. I loved 'The Power of Love' and her new one' Please don't say you love me' is a lot different to her first one but still really good. I like her voice and will probably buy her first album due out next month.

Leona is a superior singer to Emeli in my eyes. Emeli sings out of her nose, and that's quite a big no no for any vocalist.

Dear OP. Is that a press release!? Do U work in promotions for that particular singer!?

Best female vocalist would be Adele. Predictable but TRUE imo.
Bo Bruce, Paloma Faith & Stooshe (all 3 of them are so strong but so underrated imo)

I think Delilah is brilliant, her album from the roots up is fantastic

Vocally and as a songwriter - Emeli Sandé.

Sorry to be predictable but I was listening to her album this last week and she really is at a level that no-one comes close at the moment.

They are both quite nasal for me and can get a bit whiney and shrill. I don't mean it in a bad way though, Celine often sounds nasal but she is an amazing singer. I just find Emeli's songs boring. Leona has some good songs that I enjoy and her voice is pleasant enough to listen to. I have all three of Leona's albums but I don't own a thing by Emeli and usually turn the radio off when her songs come on.

I agree, I find her voice boring and annoying. Especially that Clown song, it sounds awful. Emeli is not bad, but she seems like a very limited singer to me, her voice doesn't fill me with any emotion.

I also have all three Leona albums, and she has stellar vocals throughout, same with Alexandra. I find Jessie J is also extremely screechy and awful. I don't know how anyone can be calling her "best" anything after this performance. :o

I would say that there isn't one female vocalist who is away from the rest, to me there's a small group that seem to have far superior skills as vocalists and performers than the rest.

Anyone can post a bad performance of almost any singer named in this thread. Jessie J has tons more amazing performances on top of that one much like anyone else mentioned.

I'd say Alexandra and Leona. And also Rebecca Ferguson. I personally think Emeli Sande is over-rated and maybe that's because I prefer her as a song-writer than a singer, with that being said I do think she has a good voice. Adele I like her, very talented but I wouldn't say she's the best female vocalist both Leona and Alex trump her.

But I am pleased that no one has had the nerve to post that Tulisa is the best female vocalist of the UK...:p

That's because we all know that queen Cheryl rules supreme when it comes to vocals. :D

She's ok. She sounds like a diluted version of Joss Stone so you should probably calm down a bit.

Wash your mouth out with water! Diluted Joss Stone?! Have another listen perhaps...

Well, this thread started off quite well [ apart from this comment! ] but sadly soon veered off into a familiar territory. Seeing people comment that Emili Sande is on another level to anyone else for example, means to me, that some people are still sticking to chart artists and not looking elsewhere.

To the question about me posting a press release....no! I am a fan...a community radio presenter who gets to play her music...and yes, I count myself as a friend as well. But I am friends with plenty of artists and I don't rate them as highly as Jo. My view...and this is one that an ever growing list of people have too...Jo Harman ranks alongside ANY UK artist you can name right now...she writes, she sings brilliantly, any style too...she is above the likes of Emili for sure....I won't say better than Adele, I respect her work a lot...I just wanted to tip open minded people off about what is out there.

[ Check out Goldie Reed too by the way...she ain't bad either! ]

    best female vocals currently;
Kristina Train (folk/easy listening/jazz), Adele (popular rock-soul), Leona Lewis (high register), Florence (strength), Lianne La Havas (tone), Emeli Sande (live perofrmance - pitch); Laura Mvula (bluessy-soul); Rumer (easy listening/jazz)

    Lol rock:rolleyes:

Alexandra Burke easily. I think her voice ticks all the boxes. I understand why people say Leona, but in my opinion she's only good for hitting high notes. Alexandra has a much better tone and a lower register than Leona. People like Adele and Emeli Sande are fantastic, but technically, Alex can outsing them. It's just a shame that her music lets her down as a lot of people don't realise how good she is. Since X Factor, she's got even better.

Her royalty check after this season of American Idol is going to be HUGE! So far her songs have been covered at least once per episode and used as background music.
