His Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast chat shows are brilliant and knocks MM's Chat Show right out of the park.

Had a ticket to go on Monday, was due to be Bob Mortimer, I couldn't go in the end. Its a good night normally, usually has a bit of extra stand up not on the pod.

I was never a Herring fan till a few years ago, hadn't really known much about him, but he's very good and always trying new stuff.

Love these podcasts. I've listened to most of them so far and he's doing some new ones right now. They can be so damned daft but funny, he's 48 going on 12 at times, and his emergency questions are just beyond weird to his guests. He sure loves talking todgers, and I once made copies of all his "Talking Cock" podcasts for a female friend!

Michael McIntyre, just don't get his appeal for a moment. Him and the One Show were suited in that respect.

    You haven't read his autobiography.

Before he was on the Royal Variety, he was a complete unknown without any success as a comedian. He was having financial problems and not enough people were going to his gigs. Then the Royal Variety came and sprung him to the success story he is today.

But surely in an autobiography he would've revealed his well-connected father and growing up in that TV, comedy, scriptwriting environment that shaped him as he was growing up?
And what about all the middle-ground he had to do? It's not an unusual predicament to only have a handful of people turn up to a gig where you're sharing the stage with other new comedians, that happens to a lot of them.
What about all the comedy fringe festivals he had to do? That's usually where the talent scouts hang out every August in Edinburgh when they need an act for a warm-up man for their TV shows or as a support act for some other well-established comedian?
You're painting a picture that he was somehow sprinkled with some magic dust and became a hit overnight. He didn't, life doesn't work like that unless you have a solid group of people in the profession behind you or solid perseverance from many many years working your way upwards, slowly making a name for yourself.

So unless you skipped all of the middle bit to where he began to make a name for himself, then it can't really be that much of a 'warts n all' autobiography.

Because Michael McIntyre has been way more successful than him.

Yeah right. If you mean successful as in made more money than yeah probably. But Lee's been around since the late 80s and is just as popular now as he was at his 90s heyday, I can't see MM having such longevity not with the crap material and attitude he clearly has. Except perhaps mebbe for you of course

Thanks for this thread guys. I've had a couple of clashes with Dalekbuster when he couldn't anyone else's opinion other than his and his words must be treated as fact.

As for the Rolf Harris and pornography that's disgusting.

Nice to have it confirmed that he is a ****.

Stewart Lee's career has spanned about 25-30 years on TV, Radio, Books, tours etc. McItyre's career has just been different, more mainstream.

Exactly. More successful than Stewart Lee's.

    Or to be rude.

Interrupting guests can "be funny" but it can also be rude. It depends on how you play it.

Why would he be doing it to be rude?

    How do you quantify success?

Popularity. Michael McIntyre's tours always sell out, he has consistently broken records with his stand-up DVDs, starred in and hosted the Royal Variety numerous times, been a judge on Britain's Got Talent, has had a number of successful TV programmes, always been a part of Comedy Gala and released a hugely successful autobiography.

They're more often than not great fun. Really looking forward to the Herring/Sir Bob Mortimer interview. Two favourites of mine chatting about, well, sh!te probably! But amusingly.

He has been very open about his father being a comedian but the section about when he attempted to get a name in comedy details how he was going around the same comedy club never being at the top of the bill. It does mention Edinburgh too but that was where he had only two people turn up.

The way it's written in the book, he happened to be asked to appear on the Royal Variety and that's where he had his big break.

Michael McIntyre will last forever as a successful comedian IMO and easily outdo Stewart Lee in terms of longevity.

So you judging it from a materialistic POV?

    That's rather a shallow POV.

There is fan support and then there is dalekbuster support. It's insane. You defend the person or show regardless on how in the wrong the person is. Oh and don't let any silly thing like facts gets in the way either.

It's not worth arguing with this individual. A massive WUM or severely in need of help. Posts #43 and #50 in the link sum him up.

And as for McIntyre, never has so little talent been stretched so thin. He is probably starting to realise himself that the gig is nearly up, in an 'Emperors New Clothes' type style...

For heaven's sake, how much further up MM's backside can you go?

He was just being a prize tool the whole show. Wouldn't shut up. There was some other dentist guy on to promote that BBC show that's on tonight an McIntyre kept talking over him and the presenters had to keep telling him to shut up and at one point actually said "ok Michael you've done your bit, let him have his".

    Totally agree with BelfastGuy.

I used to really like MM but last nights performance, in which he acted like a spoilt two year old, on The One Show has totally put me off him. He certainly is a prize tool.

It might be said that the only thing in the world better than being a judge on Britain's Got Talent is not being a judge on Britain's Got Talent.

Part of the problem (for me) is that the channels overkill on certain comedians - if it's not MM we're seeing it's John Bishop or Sarah Millican, or Reginald D Hunter etc... etc... They seem to appear on their own show, chat shows, quiz/game/panel shows all within a short period of time (like they are flavour of the season/year) to the extent I get fed up with them. :( The novelty of them wears off and they become annoying.
