Why do they never bring back the original hosts when old shows are revived

At least those who are not suffering from ill health are dead or awaiting trial

Is it a sign of how time has changed

Do they really want younger people watching

Or is telly simply ageist

Apparently when the BBC were looking to bring University Challenge back in 1994 Bamber Gascoine was approached about returning to the quizmaster,s chair but he said no hence why Jeremy Paxman got the job

There's lots of reasons I'd have thought. Too old, no longer 'current', doesn't want the job again (maybe not up to the recording schedule or has re-invented himself), is too 'toxic' (Barrymore for e.g.) to name but a few possibles.

    Cost is likely.
Thats why Roy Walker was dropped from "Catchphrase", Les Dennis from "Family Fortunes" and Carole Vorderman from "Countdown" - their replacements are on a fraction of the money.

At the time it was said that Gascoigne declined because it was originally intended to come back as a daytime 5-times-a-week show. May have been different if he'd been offered what it actually turned out to be.

Bamber is 79 and William G from fifteen to one is 78
So possibly too heavy a workload
