Veteran Scottish television football and golf commentator Arthur Montford has died. He was 85

    So sad. The man who created STV's sports service and held it together for over three decades. Who of a certain age can forget Scotsport, known in the area as 'Spot the Ball'!

    But as technology improved, it turned out to be THE Saturday night football highlights show! Thanks Arthur.

    Oh dear. That is really sad news. Arthur was there from the very beginning of STV and he and his check jackets were legendary.

    He was always so calm and collected, and he always seemed to be a really nice guy, a gentleman.

    RIP Arthur.

    Well known in the rest of the UK as a member of ITV's Golf commentary team also as a presenter of Australia v Scotland in 1985 and Scotland v Peru in 1978 as commentator even though he wasn't meant to be heard in the rest of the UK
