Slight lump in my throat and sleep aponea
I am really suffering insomnia because of obstructive sleep apnoea or swallowing that causes me to wake up as soon as I get to sleep. I end up not getting to sleep until something like after 3am because of this. This started happening last week. I don't have hypersalivation and I usually sleep on my side. I can feel a slight lump in my throat and that seems to be causing it. What could be causing this lump in my throat and what to try before seeing a doctor?

Or it could be throat cancer.
Go the the doctor.
Or it cold be throat cancer. See a doctor.
In my case two things cause it:
1 A couple of years ago I got whooping cough and that was the final symptom of it. Nasty, nasty disease.
2 This year my allergies during autumn and winter triggered it.
That could be stress. Either stress is the base trigger or perhaps you are getting stressed over the nocturnal episodes (which is hardly a surprise).
Given that it's summer perhaps you are experience traditional hayfever?
Anyway what seems to work for me (or at least helps a lot) is liberal use of Olbas oil on a tissue by the side of the bed. I'm not entirely convinced it really is the solution but even if it's just a placebo it does seem to help me when I'm suffering this.
When all else fails remember this: Your body won't let you suffocate in your sleep. It will always wake you up to enjoy the experience
if you truly have it getting a cpap will improve your life 10 fold and will most likely save it as it can lead to all sorts of other issues further down the line if gone untreated.
