    I did read in the paper a while ago that he was very flirty with women. Maybe she just got sick of his flirty ways.

    Because a you said, a boss is normally considered male, so she says female boss to make the point shes a female equivilant of a usually male considered boss.

    She can't be "the boss" as that's Bruce Springsteen.

    Mind you, if she didn't know what rock music was on x factor she probably hasn't even heard of him :D
