My old Acoustic Solutions TV just died, well sort of. It switches off and it takes half an hour or longer before you can get it to come bake on.
The power light just flashes. When it is on the PSU buzzes quite loudly.
Anyway, I need a new one.
So I'm looking at Tesco, ASDA or Sainsburys . No more than £400 40" ish .. Any recommendations ?

I think it would have to be better than Acoustic Solutions

If it was me I would be sticking to known makes like LG, Samsung, Hitachi, Sharp, Sony etc. Supermarket brands tend to be cheap and cheerful and don't last five minutes in my experience. My aunt keeps buying TV.s from Tesco for her kitchen I reckon she has had 3 or 4 different ones in the last 5 years!
Actually probably not, and quite possibly identical cheap badged sets (both Hitachi and Toshiba badge cheap Vestel sets).
I was under the impression it was mainly the small screen stuff that had cheap and cheerful Vestel chassis. Have the large screen Tosh and Hitachi gone cheap and nasty now?
Yes
That's a worry! >:( so back to the original post, what would you people recommend to be a good TV then for 4 or 5 hundred quid?

It's a Panasonic Plasma
Personally I would look at Panasonic or Sony TV's. Have you a Richer Sound locally ?. If so trot along there and look at the options. John Lewis also has a good reputation.
Avoid cheap supermarket options.
I also like this one but quite a bit more

I have an LG 50 inch Plasma but these are not great in bright rooms and hard to watch when the suns shining in.
Lucky I have a 27 inch LED screen to.
There is also a 42 inch

AGREED! That's a very good point, but like the majority of customers I fear!! She just can't be bothered with the hassle of arguing about it! She just thinks oh well it was only £100 and it is out of warranty I will just go and buy another, and so the cycle goes on! That's how these company's get away with it!
Would love to go to Amazon for one (use Amazon a lot) but the telly conked out a few times yesterday and I need to get one from where they have stock..

As far as I'm aware pretty well all Hitachi's have been Vestel for many years (mines an old 42 inch Plasma one) - in fact it's hard to remember back to when Hitachi actually made TV's?, Toshiba 'did' make a few of their larger sets - but as this is a cheap set it's most probably a Vestel.
Hitachi are classed with Bush, Goodmans etc. and have been since well back last century.
How much utter nonsense can you make in one post?
EU rules DON'T give a 2 year warranty (not anywhere in Europe), and never have. The inferior EU legislation was never ratified in the UK as our existing SOGA gives far greater protection.
Also Tesco have NEVER been forced to honour (which has a 'u' in it) non-existent legislation, but have complied with the existing UK SOGA legislation, which their entire 'own brand' system places them in breach of.
TV's also aren't expected to last 6 years (that's the time SOGA gives you to try and make a claim), and certainly cheap junk (like Acoustic Solutions) are pretty unlikely to make that age. A good percentage of the cheap supermarket junk tends to only last a couple of years - it's why it's cheap.
Generally to get a decent picture first thing you turn off is 100hz processing. It can make the pictures look very weird.
quite the opposite imo
its better to leave some features off granted ,,,,,,,,, or at least on their lowest setting ,,,,,,,,
but 100htz is pretty much requirement for fast panning shot's ,,,,,,,,,,,, on large screen sets anyhow ,,, its not really noticeable on 22inch sets etc
and please correct me if im wrong on this , but i thought on some sets 100htz is 100htz etc , meaning no matter what setting you use , it cant be switched down to 50htz
When Which test TV's the first thing the technicians turn off is 100Hz processing. Particulary on cheap sets it can produce some pretty nasty artefacts,

Because an inherent fault might not have occurred? Are they? Says who? The UK didn't adopt the EU two year law as the Sales of Goods Act betters it.
Should read the whole thread first.
I agree though, why do people talk utter crap on things they know nothing about. If you only think you know it, then don't give advice as it will most likely be wrong.
