Innocent go to prison while guilty stay free

I was wondering how often character's actually get sent to prison for crimes they actually commited.

It seems more favourable in soaps to convict innocent characters, while the true guiltly ones stay free and are usually killed off.

I know Chas hasn't stood trial yet in ED, but it is an example of such - she's in prision while Cameron is wandering around.

Yeah, it seems most of the time the guilty party is eventually killed off as 'karma'. The only exception that springs to mind right now is Chrissie in EE, but even that was after Sam Mitchell had been falsely imprisoned for 2 months.

Oh, I suppose another one is Tony Gordon in Corrie. Nobody was falsely imprisoned for his crimes, and eventually he gave himself in. But again, that ended up reverting to type with him being killed off after escaping.
