Any pledge of allegiance involving the Queen would be a pledge to God by proxy.

It won't stop anything. Do people really think this is going to end any tensions? It's similar to suggesting we all sing and hold hands.

It's not up to kids to serve their country, it's up to the country and the adults to prove to the kids that the country is worthy.

If you want slaves, just build robots, don't have kids.

I don't see anything wrong with the Union Jack being hoisted in schools, if the school wanted to, but a pledge of allegiance is too much, even if it didn't involve god or the queen

All this 'pledging allegiance' really belongs to new countries like the USA and military dictatorships in Africa and Asia

I regard it as an UnBritish Activity

It'll never happen, not in Scotland or NI as other posters have said anyway!
Any young women under the age of 26 who want to pledge allegiance to God and the Queen can join Girlguiding UK :)

A US STYLE pledge of allegiance
Isn't that a good reason NOT to have one?

The flag is fine I agree. A "pledge of allegiance" like that would just have the opposite effect though and alienate non-religious people and people who don't support the monarchy.

A US STYLE pledge of allegiance should be introduced so schools can attempt to unite an increasingly diverse Britain, one of the most influential Ministers urged .

I think its wrong and I bet they have to swear allegiance to God and the queen, which is very wrong as not all kids believe in god or like the queen.
    pupils should pledge a allegiance

Way, way too American, and means absolutely nothing at all. Is US society any less dysfunctional because of it ? I think not.

If someone told me to pledge allegiance to God and the Queen, I'd tell them to piss off.
(Anyway, **** would well and truly hit the fan if this idea was brought in over here in Northern Ireland)

    Sinister idea.

But perhaps not as sinister as the multi-culty experiment.

I don't understand why multiculturalism is sinister? After all Britain has always been multicultural, to suggest it is now an experiment is fallacious.

    What a bloody stupid idea.

Schools should be trying to promote more individualism and free thinking, not coming up with more ideas to turn children into mindless drones.

Of course, if any of those kids end up in government they'll be allowed to ignore any pledges they may previously have made.

Pupils shouldn't have to do that. Ridiculous.
