Okay, just listened to the whole thing and it's alright i suppose, it definitely has that epic Bond vibe to it with the backing music, i still think her singing is what lets it down though even though it's probably the least depressing song she's ever done. I find the way she says "Skyfall" kind of annoying though, it sounds like she's singing "Let the Skyfawwwww"...infact she does that quite a few times with other words too like "crumble" which comes out like "crumbuwwww".

That said, it's stuck in my head now so it can't be that bad can it.

    Excuse me????

It's orchestral neo classical elecro pop jazz fusion funk sub metal twaddle thank you very much
That's very garbled. You should write their lyrics. ;)

    Now, this here Bond theme:

Hmm. It sounds exactly as you'd expect an Adele Bond song to sound. Pretty good, but no surprises.

Certainly better than a lot of other Bond songs, but then Bond very rarely represents the best of an artist. Most have done greater things, though perhaps not as well known.

However, as an intergral part of the Bond promo campaign it definitely does its job. Doubtless it'll have major media/chart prominence as the film is released, which is really what it's all about.

Not so much a song as list of Bond titles set to music. Dire.

 It's not as bad as Madonna or Jack White & Alicia Keys.

Wow! So glad someone's said that, can't believe no one said it yet. How'd you get to be so original

Just caught the whole version. Very good and there is a smoky resonance to the chateuse of Tottenham's voice that suits Bond.

The choir lifts it and the orchestration. Its not quite as muscular as the punch between the eyes YKMN - but still a worthy entry.

Not to mention "overdoo" for "overdue". I realise fake US accents are compulsory for most singers but this was particularly grating.
    Not the worst Bond song.

I think it's a nice way to symoblise the evolution of this "new" Bond era. I think YKMN was very important to establish how Casino Royale was going to be played out - both in audio and video. Replacing the usual dancing girls, with shadow blokes fighting to the death and making eachother blow up in to playing cards, for example :p

Whereas Skyfall already looks (IMO) to be a more familiar Bond title.

They keep showing the 'official' vid on BBC breakfast this morning, composed entirely of clips from the film - wish they wouldn't show so much of the film.

The song isn't bad but I thought it was going to be a bit more... of a belter or something. I don't think it's bad but it isn't quite as bombastic as I'd like.

Now that I have heard the whole thing, it is just merely a pale imitation of those sung by Bassey and even of Gladys Knight's Licence to Kill.

Lets hope the film is the same - and not another Bourne identity clone like the previous two..sigh

    Don't agree entirely

The quick edit fight scene was introduced in OHMSS.

it's ok. I was with it at the start but i'm not keen on the pronounciation with "zat skyfoe" and "crumboes". too irritating to have on my mp3 player.

what annoys me with the bond people is that they are publicity obsessed. the films are awash with embarassing product placement and they always reject better songs for lesser ones by "name" artists

the adele lyrics are pretty basic and clumsy and for me, it's a much weaker song than the one by eva almer they rejected for quantum of solace

of course, adele is a name so an ok song by her (or alicia keys/jack white) is preferable to them to a better song by a lesser known artist. they rejected "surrender" by kd lang in favour of sheryl crow for the same reasons

The melody is really good, but Adele is what she always is, and I'm afraid she's terrible. Poor voice, awful pronunciation. If you ignore the debacle that was Keys and White, it's probably the worst vocal performance on a Bond theme. Plus the backing singers also ruin it. It just sounds like the composer couldn't come up with some sort of middle eight to link to the chorus, and just ran out of idea. No Bond theme has ever had backing singers on it. It's at that point in the song that it goes for Bassey era goodness to 00's wallpaper pop, sorry I mean pap.

It's not awful but I expected something a bit more powerhouse. I don't think Adele's vocal on it is particularly strong which I guess I expected.

It's no Goldeneye, and that's not even the best of the themes.

Its generally Ok but the backing vocals are awful. Not the best not the worst. Gets an average rating from me.

Having listened to it again i have to agree completely with this. It's quite poor. The lyrics are rubbish and her pronunciation is god-awful, if she actually spoke properly it might not be so bad, but all the "Skyfawwwww" and "crumbowwwwws" are incredibly irritating.

I had high hopes but agree with a lot of the negative comments. The pronouncing didn't bother me so much because that's just her style but it was pretty lacklustre. It was just a copy and paste of the past great themes but doesn't match up, the lyrics are poor and the repetitivness suggested ideas where lacking, I dont like hearing the same word in a song 200 times. It could have been worse I guess, its not a terrible opener to a bond film, just mediocre.

    This is the end
Hold your breath and count to ten
Feel the earth move and then
    Hear my heart burst again

    For this is the end
I've drowned and dreamed this moment
    So overdue, I owe them
    Swept away, I'm stolen

Are moment, them, and stolen really supposed to rhyme?

    Hopefully there's an instrumental version.
