Crashed 9300t

Hi

We had a power cut whilst watching a recording and on its return our HUMAX 9300T ( 320Gb) displayed "Format hard drive Yes / No " .

Clicking No and pressing MENU we have lost the RECORD icon option ...and the Menu lists starts at PREFERENCE and ends at GAMES.

According to the manual , Appendix 13 no.25 ,(page GB71)

this states it is due to the HDD not initialising on startup.

I`ve tried their suggestion of switching off for 2 minutes etc.....I`ve also restored the default Settings.....but the fault persists.

It now advises calling Humax Customer Helpline ( I`ve emailed them already and am awaiting a reply)

I realise the formatting the HDD may be an option to try but don`t really want to lose all the previously recorded programmes....only as a last resort .

( I know they can possibly be transferred as files but I don`t have 320Gb worth of space on my laptop or PC )

I also realise that the power cut may have trashed the HDD

Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions please to see if I can get it working properly without losing the recordings?

Thanks

Reg

I don't think you will get that message unless the Humax detects a hard drive when it boots but there is some corruption of the logical file system.

Not in this case I suspect. Clearly if you have declined to format the drive then it can't use the drive.

If you can't easily transfer the recordings then unless you want to get specialist help to try and understand what has happenend to the data on the disk then the only option is to accept the request to format.

    Thanks for the reply Martin.

I was hoping that there might have been some form of "repair" option , either separate software or possibly a hidden Engineer`s menu that would have attempted a diagnosis and "repair" of the HDD without losing all the recordings.

I have dealt with HDD failures in the past on several PCs where a temporary cure was effected by running the HDD manufacturer`s Diagnostic software which diagnosed , found and then marked any damaged/faulty sectors, allowing at least temporary service to be resumed.

I`ve managed to borrow a large spare HDD so will attempt to download the programmes off this faulty one so that I can see if a new Format will get this crashed one working again.(Or if the crashed one is really damaged then I will buy a replacement HDD and use that )

One final request......is there a source showing the exact procedure in downloading/reloading the programmes off the HDD plus links as to where the relevant software can be downloaded (presumably for free)...If not then I can search it out for myself at the weekend when I have a bit more time.

This PVR has most of the wife`s saved programmes on it ...and she doesn`t want to lose them...hence the urgency and reason not to just do a Format straightaway.

If they were my mine then I wouldn`t worry too much as nowadays, most TV programmes are repeated at regular intervals .

Thanks for your comments and help

If you successfully get the recordings copied off and then back to the Humax disk, can you post that here please. I'm having problems with doing this on a 9300T that you can read about here

Humaxcheck has some diagnostic capability and will write a new partition table see http://humaxdisk.wikispaces.com/DiagnosticTools

    Good plan.

See http://humaxdisk.wikispaces.com/HumaxRW there are all sorts of threads on here about its usage.

    Saga Update!!

Now I`m struggling with a similar problem as fruitmachine on my PVR9300T

Using HumaxRW FrontEnd I can "see " the full list of programme files on the old HDD.

I have bought another working PVR9300T off Ebay and tested by recording and viewing a couple of TV programmes..Everything works OK.

Using the HRWFrontEnd I copied a single programme to my laptop ,which appeared as 4 files (MPEG TS Video ,ELU EPG and HRE files)
I then transferred these four files to this second HDD in the Ebay PVR. .

I could "see" this programme title in the second HDD listing ..plus the titles of the other 2 (test ) recordings done previously.

Once the PVR was connected to the TV , I couldn`t see anything listed under Recorded Programmes...not even the previously (test) recorded ones.

Any suggestions of what to do next would be most welcome.

ps..I`ve just discovered that I can watch the programme using the MPEG TS Video file on my PC. As mentioned previously my main aim was to try and salvage these programmes as they were my wife`s recordings so this will be my get-out-of-jail card !
I`d still like to know how to get them working again on the PVR though

    Final update !!

The harddrive finally crashed and became unreadable so I only managed to salvage a few of the recorded programmes as MPEG files.

I intend to buy a new hdd replacement , possibly a 500Gb so will post another question about this subject
