Hi there

Please could someone tell me how I can alter a photo which is 1.25 megabytes to under 1 megabyte please?

Many thanks.

Best wishes

    Try:

    http://www.irfanview.com/

Just load it into that and resave it (as a JPEG). Chances are the filesize will reduce.

    If it doesn't you could:

    1. Reduce the image size.
    2. Reduce the quality when saving. (There is an option in the advanced save options to do so)

you could also try compressing it with 7zip - http://www.7-zip.org

Depends why she wants it shrunk I guess.

If it's a size restriction in uploading an image somewhere, zipping it won't help.

(Just pointing that out in case the OP doesn't realise that 7-zip won't actually alter the image, just compress it into a container in the same way as WinZip - for example - does.)

Thanks guys! Will try the 'irfanview' suggestion and get back to you. The reason I need to do this is I want to upload a photo to register for Glastonbury and they've asked for nothing bigger than 1 megabyte.

I think you would be better off resizing the photo, as it's won't have to be the best quality for Glastonbury.

You can download a image resizer from Microsoft for Windows which is free to download - all you have to do is right click on the image and then select the size to resize it to.

You can get it for XP here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx
