Easy. It's not insanely massive and open like Skyrim.
I've played it three times so far, with each playthrough coming in at around 40-50 hours. That's with doing everything - main story, side quests, loyalty quests, DLC...
40 - 50 hours ain't too bad for a game. Great game
Person to go in the pipes: Legion. Tali is also ideal, as is Kasumi.
Leader of the other team (both times): Garrus. Miranda is also ideal. Or even Jacob, even though he's Jacob.
Biotic shield: Samara/Morinth. Jack is also ideal (if she has her unique implants).
Escort: Mordin.
When you go to the final section, take loyal "squishy" characters and leave behind "tanks" like Grunt etc. to Hold.The.Line. I usually have Miranda with me (she's always with me!) and Tali.
Chosen "Specialists" must be Loyal.
Final squad must be Loyal.
etc.
Also: If you don't upgrade the Normandy's Shields, Weapons, and Armour, one person will die for each one that is not upgraded, during the run from the relay to the Base.

Pretty much the same for way I did it -
although for the final section I took Kazumi (her Shadow Strike is really useful) and Miranda
For the final fight I always max-out Mordin's... whatsit... his flame thing. He ends up being the best person against collectors. I also take Jack for crowd-control. Jack flings them back, Mordin incinerates them while they're off-guard, and I use well placed distance sniper shots to take out harbingers and anything with tough armour or barriers.

I always send mordin back to the normandy with the crew and usually take zaeed and grunt with me

Zaeed always dies! On EVERYTHING! I usually send Thane back to the Normandy. I've never actually used him for anything. Tali goes into the tubes, Jack's my biotic shield, and Miranda is my leader. I always leave Grunt behind, he's an absolute tank.

The first 3 timed I played through it everyone always survived so I started to think they couldn't die so on my fourth playthrough I purposefully made all the wrong decisions and everyone died including shepard lol
Haha! I was the other way around! My first two play-throughs someone died. I think Miranda in the first because I dumped her for Jack, and Thane in the second because I lost his target in the loyalty mission. I got to the end and just went "NO!!!! THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!", restarted the game and played it again. All in the course of about a week and a half.

I think it adds more realism to the game when anyone can die if you make the wrong choices, I can't weight for mass effect 3
1. Recruit all characters.
2. Do all character loyalty missions.
3. Do all DLC
4. Do all side-missions, quests etc.
5. Get the reaper IFF
6. Do Legion's loyalty mission.
7. Rescue the crew STRAIGHT AWAY
8. Launch suicide mission
9. Bring all crew and team mates home safely
A few others tips. Team members for the main mission:
Tech specialist: Tali
Team leader: Miranda, Jacob or Garrus
Biotic: Jack or Samara/Morinth
Team with Shepard: Jack and Mordin (incinerate and warp powers, more likely to die on the defensive line)
Also, keep Miranda/Jack, and Tali/Legion's missions as far apart as possible and max-out paragon or renegeade. I would also recommend maxing out paragon and renegade for Samara and Tali's loyalty missions in order to achieve the best possible outcome.
Comments
Mordin - has also gone interesting
Found something sad about Miranda for Shepard, perhaps Mordin could sort it.
Jack is still dislikeable.
Miranda wants Shepard, Kelly has gone more for Zaeed.
Got ME in the Steam sale but I have an embarrasing thing to say - got to finish Half Life 2 first
Just had the follow the collectors to get the crew back.
Still have Arrival DLC to do.
Will it mess anything up to do the Arrival DLC before the crew recovery mission?
Also when do I do the paramour thing - 2 crew interested in Shepard.

Hmm if I recall you should do the Arrival DLC AFTER completing the entire game (storywise it will make more sense).
As for the crew recovery mission
The paramour thing - your choice who to go for.
Doing that now, lost 3 of my team to the collectors, but managed to keep my paramour character safe
Will need to replay as I now know who I need and how to avoid losing crew.
Must be loyal lost Jack & Zaeed
Team 2 must be leader not soldier - lost Grunt:(
Now got Tali trying for my character affections:o
Have also read up on how to avoid Jack relationship

It certainly is
It's one of my favourite games of this generation.
Double that if you do a New Game+
First playthrough - Paragon
Second playthrough New Game+ - Renegade
Third playthrough New Game+ - Insanity Run
Extremely rewarding
Can't wait for ME3
Pretty much the same for way I did it -
Now I know why I lost a few members 1 was not loyal, 1 was wrong choice, 1 was lack of armour
Among the best of last year. First proper RPG I have done.
2011 was amazing for games.
The demo confused me, but finding it for £17 was interesting
Imported John Spacer Soldier (default appearance) into a hard play through, also aiming to do no loss of crew in final bit.
Want this for ME3 (paragon, all team, Miranda)

I played through mostly with Grunt and Garrus.
He had the relationship with Tali.
In the Suicide mission I lost half of the crew and now see where I have gone wrong.
I have non of the DL content yet.
