Surprised no-one's mentioned the Johnstone's Paint Trophy 2nd round draw which took place yesterday; here are the matches (to be played the week commencing 5th October):

    North (West)

    Port Vale v Blackpool
    Bury v Morecambe
    Crewe Alexandra v Wigan Athletic
    Fleetwood Town v Shrewsbury Town

    North (East)

    York City v Doncaster Rovers
    Sheffield United v Notts County
    Rochdale v Chesterfield
    Bradford City v Barnsley

    South (West)

    Yeovil Town v Coventry City
    Plymouth Argyle v Exeter City
    Oxford United v Swindon Town
    Bristol Rovers v Wycombe Wanderers

    South (East)

    Millwall v Northampton Town
    Crawley Town v Southend United
    Stevenage v Dagenham & Redbridge
    Gillingham v Luton Town

Not being biased, but the match highlighted ought to be the match Sky chooses to show live. A bitter local rivalry with the yellow lot having won the last 4 matches between the two clubs and with them being in the lower division, they're the perfect ingredients (and if anyone mentions the claims of Plymouth v Exeter to be shown, both clubs are in the same division and in any case, both clubs' league games will be shown live the following weekend).

Did they even show a game in round 1? Yeah Oxford Swindon should be picked though

Apologies, must be going mad! Why did I think a first round tie was shown?

Another batch of live TV games will be announced at 4.30pm. I'd imagine these will take us up to the end of November, maybe up to new year perhaps.

That has to be the worst set of matches SKY has ever announced.

Dont expect record viewing figures for these.

What a grim set of fixtiues.

Saturday fixtures kicking off at 12:30, and not 12:15, guess it gives them another 15 mins build up.

Derby only once in a selection of FL Games, that must be a record. And Leeds not shown at all, come on Sky what are you playing at:D

Not sure, but you would have thought it would be 2 at least with this bigger contract.

Vaguely off topic, I heard on the radio earlier, about the Football League altering the structure again.

    Anybody also heard about it

They appointed a company called Futurebrand, and they might rename the divisions again. Which will result in absolutely nothing

I bet the Leyton Orient, Hull and Brighton fans are going to love those early starts, and those of QPR and Brentford loving the late starts.

I found this part of the Telegraph's article strange: "The league is open to altering the current divisional names again after appointing Futurebrand to propose changes to <snip> help it attract a younger audience." What?

Bolton Brentford on a Monday night is a particular low point

There is no Premier League on the Monday
Capital One Cup week as well

Who would you like to see play then ???

More a low point because of the long distance for Brentford fans and both teams look like they'll struggle this season

To be honest, there aren't any stand out Championship games that weekend

To be honest the reaction in this thread to the games announced tells you why Sky pick Leeds games most often.

For personal reasons Sky have played a blinder rearranging our game v Brentford as far as I'm concerned. I suppose they're thinking of the 'both teams in trouble' narrative

More than that, when are these games supposed to be played? We know matches can't be shown on Saturday at 3pm, so they either have to kick off early or kick off late, and showing them opposite Premier League matches is clearly a no-no because they would get tiny viewing figures. So by that regard Middlesbrough can seemingly only be shown on television playing Yorkshire teams because everywhere else is too far away for fans to travel for early or late kick-offs. Either that, or they're not shown on television at all.

We know Sky have to show X number of matches per season, so my question is, if the reverse fixture, QPR vs Middlesbrough is first vs second, when would be considered a suitable time to play it for television coverage? Or are people seriously suggesting matches should not be picked on the merits of the fixture?

So Villa v Blues was a win for the higher placed Premier League side playing at home.

Sky should have gone with Walsall v Chelsea.
