Computer Virus: Ads by GoSave

Does anyone know how to get this off a computer? It's slowed down everything and keeps adding hyperlinks to other virus sites to almost every word of text on the screen, and today it's managed to add a pop-up ad to the top of almost every webpage I've visited that tells me: "The webpage ad debadrma.com says: WARNING!!! your java version is outdate, have security risks! Please update now!" (spelling/grammar mistakes theirs). Clicking the close X brings you to another page that insists you download a 'program' (I'll assume another virus).

For added fun, my OS is Windows 8 and it's ****ing difficult to find and remove anything, let alone viruses. Internet browser is Chrome.

What anti-virus software do you have? The first thing to try would be scanning with that. If that fails to do anything then consider upgrading to something else, plenty of free options about such as AVG, Avast, Avira (and that's just the As :) ).

Also try Malwarebytes if you don't already have it.

Download from https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/ just need the free version and watch out for the very last screen of the installer which has a pre-ticked box to enable the trial version of the paid for version. Untick that before clicking Finish.

Run it and update the definitions database then do a full scan. Hopefully that will track down and nuke the offending nasty.

I had Aviria downloaded, but of course it was in Portuguese, just uninstalled it and redownloading it in English now. Also, switching from Chrome to Internet Explorer has shown that the GoSave program has only latched onto Chrome, because it isn't on IE at all. Thanks for the reply, btw.

If it is only affecting Chrome then try resetting it

    https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3296214?hl=en

If that doesn't work uninstall it and re-install

If that doesn't work then try this

Check for random extensions in Chrome (Menu -> More Tools -> Extensions). My brother had a similar issue with a rogue extension that got installed when he played a game on facebook. :-(

    Download ADWcleaner from here

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

After you have run it let it get rid of anything it finds and it will be gone.

To be sure get rid of any Chrome extensions that belong to the adware before running.

I know it works I have got rid of it on my machine and two friends!
