Me too. That's how to do a remake. Outstanding. Looks fantastic in HD. And like the original they've used stop motion instead of dreadful CGI - makers of the woeful new Thunderbirds series take note!
Palin is pretty much perfect for doing the voice over.
Not sure about the new title music tho - I think the original music suited the outer space setting much better.
Got it on series record now!!
I said back in this thread that the music was a big part of the original. There has been a compilation of Vernon Elliott's music for the program and it highlights how good it was. It's a shame that many don't really even think of it, same with those involved in the new version I suppose.

I think the people who did the re-make loved the original - and it shows.

Is it not a combination of stop motion and CGI? I presume the footprint effect as they walked across the planet were added in post-production with CGI or similar.

I made this point a few days ago after seeing the preview. I'm sure the main animation is done using traditional stop-frame methods, but some effects would be very time-consuming or impossible to do without some CGI assistance. Floating and flying effects need strings or other supports and a quick blast of CGI or similar treatment would speed things along. The 'vertical pond' and the way the Froglets burst through it would be very hard without some kind of video tickling, even just basic green-screen.

Peter Firmin and Dan Postgate (son of the late-lamented Oliver) were both on the credits and were involved. Fairly sure I saw somewhere that Dan Postgate was writing some of the episodes.

That sounds about right to me. Predominately stop motion with a soupcon of CGI for the reasons you mention, but not the lame, all encompassing CGI that seems almost de rigueur these days.
I thought for a minute the Iron Chicken wasn't going to give Small Clanger the little thing back so he could put it back in the big thing to make it work. But he did.:)
This is causing me to miss the fourth player on The Chase. But fortunately it finishes in time to turn over for the Final Chase.
What a pip of a story. "Small is back with his family where he belongs, and the little thing is back with the big thing where it belongs" AWW, pass me my hanky.
Has Mr Palin tamed that slightly shouty voice he had in the first ep?

I've often wondered how the clangers manage to stay on their planet. It's so small that its gravitational field would be so weak it wouldn't be able to hold them on it,as soon as they came out onto the surface they'd just drift off into space.
Maybe the Soup Dragon has something to do with it...
Just watched todays, I missed the first one. Space to far too bright.
I must admit when I saw a snippet on BBC breakfast the other day, the sky was much brighter than the original. Still looks great though and I'm pleased they didn't go down the CGI route.
I need ro get s series link to it so i can watch along with you all

He wrote the second one.
Just seen both episodes on iplayer, and was grinning throughout (and misting up because I'm a softie.) They've done the legend that was Oliver Postgate proud. Like the double takes. Of course it's great that a whole new generation will get into this, but I'll keep watching too!

So, they have changed it to the standard BBC ident. It was the huge CBeebies one before. Maybe because I watched it so soon after transmission.

Few more words - I sat with a big fat grin on my face and was transported back 46-ish years to my four-year-old self watching with my Mum.
We've got that CD and it's delightful!

Brilliant - just think what they would get if they put some on at Sunday teatime.
If they ran all the week's programmes around tea-time on BBC2 then it is the sort of thing that parents could sit and watch with their kids.
How about an episode just before Sky At Night?

I'm forty-seven.

I'm 62!
62 is good but beatable.

Class is timeless. I am 46. ;-)
Me too. A 55 year old softie here.
Amazon has a kindle book that tells you how to knit your own one,but I don't think ready made cuddly ones are available.
But if this series takes off it probably won't be long before they are.
