Starbucks... not because of their tax-evasion scandal actually. I originally refused to be a customer of Starbucks because of their scandalous water-usage policy (the whole company used to waste enough water to save an area the size of a small country from malnourishment) and have since gone on to avoid them because they've opened four branches in our immediate town centre and have resulted in the loss of nearly a dozen smaller businesses that were nicer and more affordable.
Topman/Topshop...aside from a bland selection of clothes that feel like they've all been designed from a Tumblr blog by a 40 year old man trying to be "relevant", I feel so uncomfortable in shops such as these. They only ever employ people they consider to be attractive, I feel constantly judged by the floor staff in shops like this and become massively uncomfortable (something the job centre wouldn't believe when I gave as a reason for not wanting to work in one). Add to that the ridiculous cost for the aforementioned bland items and I avoid them altogether.
Brighthouse... the home of the impatient. They sell a limited selection of underwhelming brands, and for a price that is ultimately two or three times what the product is worth. They're the shop-based equivalent of a credit card, and they've brought enough problems of their own into the last decade.
GAME... a shame that they represent the UK gaming industry so predominantly now, as I hate these stores. They're overpriced, and their second-hand selection is very temperamental. I once bought three pre-owned games for £20 on PlayStation 2 and two of them didn't even work... I took them back, they gave me some replacement discs but they wouldn't work either. When I took them back, they brought the store manager out of his cave to inform me that I was not entitled to a refund as the games were pre-owned and they could not determine the condition I was buying these games in, and that as an apology I was entitled to 10% off any chart game of my choice if I bought it on the day! The staff are rude, often uneducated, and extremely unhelpful, GameStation was far better in staff and in design but then GAME saw to that by buying them all out, and then ditching the brand. I'll never shop in GAME again, that's for sure.
As an anecdote, I never used to be able to go into New Look. They used to have a completely white design in all their shops, and it would give me a massive headache, to the point that I passed out in our local shopping centre when waiting outside one to meet with some friends. A bizarre experience, but fortunately their demographic is mostly 'female' so I don't really have a need to shop in there anyway.
Most high street clothes shops, as I'm overweight and nothing would fit. Thankfully there are online retailers who are more realistic about the world and value costumers of all shapes and sizes.
boutiques, did it once, the staff jump on you
tanning shops/beauty salons/nail shops
sex shops (I always imagine the floors to be sticky)
overpriced independent high-tech shops
dry cleaners (although I do use the key cutting service if they have one)
fishmongers
sports direct (been there, done it, never again)
starbucks
burger king (another 'never again')
travel agents
sushi bars
any phone shops
I hate shoe shops more than any other type of shop on the planet
...
Fishmongers
And I have an irrational dislike of the shop the white stuff
I may have an irrational dislike of The White Stuff too but then again I haven't liked a single item of clothing on the handful of occasions I've been in their shops.
