Dr Who- question not related to the specials

Sorry if this is a question that's been asked before or a stupid question. Why does there have to be an episode in eash season where the Doctor is hardly in it? My favourite was Turn Left. :)

    It's because there are 14 episodes a year (inc Christmas special) with only time to film 13.

    So how come Donna was in that ep last year? I don't remember her not being in any of them? (Correct me if I'm wrong!!)

    if you remember midnight was filmed alongside turn left so midnight was CT lite and turn left was DT lite this allowed them to fit the filming in
