Webcam Recording Software

I would like to record some videos using my webcam, which is capable of recording 720p widescreen HD videos. Anyone recommend some good software that will allow me to record videos but also help keep the file size low and the quality high?

I've tried VirtualDub but it wouldn't work for some reason. Any other good ones?

Cheers.

Edit: latest versions are apparently do not have webcam capability. There is another 3rd party option apparently

Make sure you make a full PC backup before you download and install (no reason to think any problems but always wise when using software that is from an unknown source).

    http://www.webcamxp.com
    http://www.netcamstudio.com

It has many cnfiragable options and allows yu to chhose when and what you record.
It worls with many webcams and ip cameras (thats how I use it for arouns the house).

There are free versions you can use and the support is excellent.

I'll try Windows Movie Maker and see. The others seem to be for security purposes or the video has watermarks on it.

The webcam is installed but I can't find the software for it to allow you to change settings. It is a 720pHD webcam but all I can seem to get out of it is 4:3 video and can't even change the focus or brightness settings either as there's no properties for it, as they came as part of the Microsoft program that was bundled with it.
