Sorry but the original version by Dan Hartman/Loleatta Holloway in 1980 is UNTOUCHABLE.

Any other version will be crass compared to it.
Although the Take That/Lulu cover had some good slap-bass on the middle-eight...

I've just watched a whole list of Gary's most brilliant moments:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtrtKBSVK6M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngJLWmk5DLk - the video you suggested

they're quite a few. the best of the best. now, I no longer have any doubt: he is better than 90% of the artists out there, if not more :)

I had troubles finding the video of him singing Hard to handle at a gig in London. there is a short clip on youtube, but I know there was, not longtime ago, the full video. do you happen to know if I can find it on another site (I'm asking you this because you seem to be a hardcore fan of Gary's:))?

lol...i've watched ALL of those relatively recently! i love that you included CIBM on BW tour (one of my all time fav TT performances), million love songs on circus tour (one of my fav performances of that song), this time (love that song and his version was great. i'd love him and shirley to do a duet of it. i think that would have been 1000x better than the duet with cheryl at the diamond jubilee), and holding back the tears (SUCH an underrated song!!! along with the day after tomorrow, and both performances on that tour were beautiful. i like that you can see dawn really clearly in the background of holding back the tears and nobody else as well :)). all of those would be selections i would make as well, though i don't really like love ain't here anymore. really, i think vocally some of my favourite take that performances come from their live at abbey road cd. i'm sure you've seen them all a million times on youtube if you don't have the cd yourself (does TT release much stuff in the ukraine?), but a particular favourite of mine is said it all. although i have such a soft spot for that song anyway, that performance is lovely, as is the one on jonathan ross. that song's a prime example of gary's falsetto control. i really like his duets with michael bublé too.

hmmmm....are you talking about this performance with the buggles?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LUFkqOtRgc there was a full version yeah, i'm not sure where it's gone now. there's a vocal without the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsM35bXSpxM. you could try dailymotion? by the way someone's uploaded the full gary barlow and friends special on there if you wanted to see that whenever (i'm not sure if itv player plays outside of the uk, so i thought i'd let you know :))

EDIT: i found this still on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXe1XDtOK80

you know more than I do :) I've just found out this week that it's Nicole singing that song with "Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me?". I think it's the only PCD song that's been played in our country - but I'm not certain. I always hated that song and I was never interested in knowing who's singing it. I found out this week, as I said, from the news - there was a short clip with them singing that song. apparently, the girls were paid heavily to perform in Ukraine and I was a little surprised, because I also knew that Nicole went solo.

i hate that song. i remember when that was first released (i was in america at the time, and america has this really infuriating thing of playing THE SAME DAMN THING OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN:mad: and i mean, literally it didn't matter what station i put on, it was the same loop of songs on a constant cycle. even songs i love became maddening. kiss from a rose is one of my favourite songs of all time, and even it was not safe. natasha beddingfield and oasis' wonderwall were common offenders also. great songs but play something else once in a while....:(:rolleyes:) but anyway, i remember seeing the video constantly on tv and just thinking "slags". i think i just found the song and video very obnoxious and that didn't endear them to me. oddly, i don't mind it as much anymore, but buttons is probably the only song from them i really like.

thank you. it was the last link I was looking for :)

yes, I've seen the Abbey Sessions and I love them. it's so nice to hear the boys without all the production a concert involves all around them. my favorite of the Abbey session is The Circus, but I also like Said it all. Said it all has been their most played song in our country :) by the way, I'm from Romania, not Ukraine (the Ukraine thing was just something that was on the news, that's all, although we are neighbours:)). no, unfortunately, there is not too much TT stuff in our music stores, despite of them being quite famous and appreciated here. however, I intend to do whatever it takes to get Gary's dvd of the tour, when it comes out, and also the next TT album - which hopefully will have more of Gary on it, because I'm not too crazy about the Robbie sound on a TT album. I think Gary wanted so much for things to work with Robbie that he deliberately took a step back on The Progress and, in doing so, they also took a step back from The Circus (in my opinion). actually, my favorite song of that album is Eight letters (and when I decided I loved that song, I wasn't even aware of the fact that it was the only one Gary sang on the Progress!)

I'm not particularly crazy about Love ain't here either (as a song), I just adore Gary's ending on that tour, it gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it; I skip most of the song just to get to that part :)

I think it's the same with radio stations all over the world. they play a song until it drives you crazy. and you should feel lucky, because the UK still has better music than most of the other countries. if you heard our "music", you'd want to hit your head on the wall. coincidence or not, the best music in our country has been made by a couple of bands that have passed the test of time and that are now seen as established artists.
as for Nicole's songs, I haven't yet found one that I like. I gave it a try and searched on youtube; I've tried to listen to 3 or 4 of her songs, but they annoyed me too much and I dropped it in the end. for me, a song has to get me hooked from the start, if it doesn't, I won't give it another chance. with Gary, it wasn't even a song that got me hooked, it was his voice. the first time I heard him, I couldn't put my finger on what I liked about his voice, all I knew was that I didn't want him to stop singing :)
I'm sorry for this rant, I'm just happy I found people that share the same passion as I do :)

omg james corden was the BEST wasn't he???:D:D:D i LOVED it! he's such fan girl, completely unashamedly and it's a joy to watch. it was like seeing him fulfil a life long dream!! (there's also a really really funny video of james corden at one of take that's wembley shows for the circus, going pure nuts! no inhibitions whatsoever, screaming every word at the top of his voice, doing the moves....everyone around him kind of leaving a little bit of distance for fear of bodily harm....:D:D he was hilarious on chris moyles' birthday show aswell)
the flood was a pleasent surprise (and the instrumental was great) but i was a little disappointed they didn't include candy. or sing. or any of the big band songs. they could have kept it going for another half hour easy!
ignoring at times dodgy camera quality, i think you'll enjoy these versions of rule the world cali girl.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=gff0EhE5Fc4 - this one he is so clearly obviously singing this to Poppy. almost the whole song, and especially towards the end, he's singing it up to the sky rather than the audience.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1WHHikflUE - this one was right after his father's death. there's a more close up one of his face somewhere on youtube that you can see at one point he's crying a little bit.

I've just found the Liverpool video of Rule the World:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuVmnEtnNrU

Gary seems even more sad in this one than in the Newcastle one. and the way Mike Stevens is keeping an eye on him is touching as hell.

    ah good! :)

yeah i don't really think TT seem to put a whole bunch of effort into promoting overseas anymore - not now they've pretty much all got their families to prioritise first. it's slightly weird, because they are still very famous and popular in a lot of countries around the world, particularly mainland europe, but they don't destroy themselves releasing or promoting stuff over there. places like germany, spain, france, italy...they're the lucky ones because - and i don't really know how to phrase this any other way - they're the "obvious" ones, if you know what i mean?? they're the major countries that TT will still go tour in. they've said a few times before when asked about america that that's the reason (family) that they'll never even bother themselves with it (they're not fussed on it and they don't need to be. they've sold something like 50million records without it and continue to have huge sales with baseline promotion. and that's before you consider that the vast majority of their revenue comes from touring...so why waste 18months-2years of your life being separated from your family touring a country as an unknown middle aged boyband that may never get you anywhere anyway....logic.). it must be quite frustrating for fans though. i've encountered quite a few australian fans who get a bit annoyed/upset because they know TT won't go there again. (though they were quite please when gary went as part of the commonwealth tour). it must take a lot of dedication to stay a fan for so long with pretty much youtube as your only real source!!

regarding robbie - i feel the same. i was pleased for them as people that they could heal those rifts, but i don't see them as compatable artists anymore. he just doesn't fit. his sound (including his harmonies. his harmonies are really aweful - watch their x factor performance of the flood and you'll hear on the bit when they all do the "ahhhh"s at the end. it sounds terrible, until robbie runs out of breath and stops singing, and then magically it sounds great!) , his attitude, his personality, his musical portfolio, even his look. none of that slotts into the equilibrium and balance that TT4 established. they reinvented themselves as such a solid unit that really, it was always going to upset the balance adding in someone - even if that someone used to be there, and especially considering that someone has spent the past decade being a stratospherically successful international superstar SOLO artist. and too much leeway and emphasis was given to robbie. gary purposly and consciously took a step back (which was actually really nice of him) and did most of the work behind the scenes (eight letters was originally a robbie vocal. it was only at the end when the album was finished that they listened to it and realised there literally wasn't one gary song that they changed it. eight letters is now also on robbie's new solo album, as his own vocal.) but it always felt to me like jason was pushed back. TT5 you barely see jason and howard at all. it makes me feel sorry for them...and that's kind of what i mean by the balance just not being there.
great that they're friends on a personal level - doesn't mean they have to be co-workers again.

oh it is yes, but i mean america really does take this to whole new levels. months on end of no real variation at all. and when i went in the mid-00's, some of these songs that they were playing were maybe a decade or more old....and yet they were still being played on that loop every half hour or so. american radio, in my experince, is ridiculous for that!

i wanted to go to this so bad, as i now live in liverpool, but i couldn't get tickets.
well, i could.....for more than a £1000 from touts. i think the cheapest was a bargain of £840:rolleyes:

    I quite enjoy your "rant":)
I know they don't care about breaking America. i loved how passionate Gary was in that interview they did in Italy (Deejay Chiama Italia), when he said "With 3 of us having children, there's no way on earth we're going to America for 6 months' or something similar.
I do understand why they choose certain countries for their tours, but I think they should try to vary more. It's pretty obvious, and they said so in a couple of interviews, that they don't feel so welcome in all of these countries. I think they'd be surprised by the Eastern European countries, if they gave us a chance. I still haven't lost hope of seeing them live. if I have to save to go see them in UK in 2014, so be it, but I'm not about to miss what could be their last tour. I don't know why, but that's my gut feeling that after 2014 they won't be touring again.

as for Robbie...I have actually enjoyed his duets with Gary - because there seems to be a "chemistry" between those 2 (I have never seen Gary as emotional as on Robbie's O2 concert), but I definitely would like to see/hear less of him in TT. have you seen their performance of The Flood in Italy - at the Sanremo festival, I think -? what was going on with Robbie? I don't know if he forgot the words or if he did it on purpose, but he was over the top, even if the audience was indeed awful.

aww..thank you!:o they are very long though...
yeah, that's sort of what i mean by "obvious" countries - to the uk at least. we tend to have the most relationship with and think of those countries most often when thinking of mainland europe. perhaps because they're so close and with large populations? i'm not sure....
i'm not sure TT even realises the spacial demographics of their fans. and there's also the matter of travelling their tours, which is extremely expensive considering the huge production values they put into them and the fact that they make two of everything. i really hope you get to see them sometime. i really want to see them in 2014 too - they're top of my list, followed by u2, coldplay and my friend's desperate to see gaga. but TT undoubtedly come 1st, although it's near impossible to get tickets for them even in the uk where they'll sell >1million. who knows how many more they'll do...they're not getting any younger...i guess so long as they're still on top they'll still keep going, but when that crown starts to slip a little they'll call it a day? (then again, they could be like u2 and go on literally forever.......or i can hope. either way:p). i would like at least another stadium tour, and then another arena one. just from youtube, BW was stunning. and i preferr the atmosphere of arena's to stadiums.

i think gary and robbie have a really beautiful story and a lovely full circle relationship. i guess when you mend those bridges you take care to make them even stronger than before. actually my own favourite song from progress (not including progressed, which has much better songs imo) is probably pretty things.
and that performance in italy, wasn't that the one where robbie apparently had a fight with one of the show producers backstage? i'm sure it is. it was reported that him and the guy had a massive argument, with the other 4 guys trying to broker peace, and then robbie disappeared and missed rehearsals (so claimed the press. the guys never made any comment on it). then i think they said that someone from the other 4 guys went to talk to him or called him and he came back, just slightly before going on air. i don't know how much of that is true (living here teaches you to take everything the press say with a very LARGE pinch of salt) but that was the story anyway. on a side note, you can see gary and robbies relationship shinning through nicely in that video. robbie did not want to leave his side, did he??!:D they're all dressed lovely too:)...i do like a well dressed man;)

ok, now that made me feel really good... the idea that I might not get a ticket, even if I save:cry:

I was just reading the comments on that video and I was just beginning to understand something about the argument you just mentioned. most of those comments are in Italian and my Italian is not that good. why couldn't they be in French, English or Spanish?:p I gathered something about Take That being stuck in traffic and then Robbie getting into an argument with someone - now I know it's one of the producers, thank you:)- and then, all those words turned into Chinese:)
There's something I didn't understand from your comment - you said Robbie did not want to leave Gary's side? they're not standing next to each other. did I misunderstand you?

no, I got it. it was only Rob that was 2 hours late and he was indeed accused of being unprofessional. he threw the mic and walked away. apparently, the fans that paid to see them that night were not too pleased with the performance. Gary seemed to me as good as ever, though.

yeah, our press is just as awful. according to our news this week, your Queen was dying. when I heard it, I went on net to see if your press was reporting the same thing. they're just unprofessional, they never check their stories and their sources are lame. one of the worst articles was about Gary receiving his OBE for being a judge on X Factor. I laughed my socks off when I read that. the replies were almost instantaneous, from people accusing that journalist of stupidity:)

ok, now that made me feel really good... the idea that I might not get a ticket, even if I save:cry:

I was just reading the comments on that video and I was just beginning to understand something about the argument you just mentioned. most of those comments are in Italian and my Italian is not that good. why couldn't they be in French, English or Spanish?:p I gathered something about Take That being stuck in traffic and then Robbie getting into an argument with someone - now I know it's one of the producers, thank you:)- and then, all those words turned into Chinese:)

oh, soz:( that's not what i meant.....i might struggle to get tickets given that i'm in the uk, but you should hopefully be able to have better luck with somewhere in europe, given you'll need to travel anyway. a european concert ticket, travel ticket and accommodation might all be cheaper than if you were to try to come to the uk, given the utter madness and hysteria these guys create. unless you have your heart set on the uk - in which case, my advice is to avoid london at all costs. travelling round london can be stressful enough on a standard day, you're not going to need the hysteria of thousands of, lets face it, highly excitable and pretty likely varying degrees of drunken, mostly hormonal women all fighting tooth and nail and cramming up the tube, streets, busses etc to get to there first. you won't even want to think about trying to get out again - they definitely be drunken then! - and prices of EVERYTHING are likely to probably tripple. people KNOW that TT bring buisness, so when they come rolling into town buisnessmen grab those reigns with both hands. there's a lot of planning involved in this type of thing!!!:p
i might try manchester, given i'm so close to it and it's TT's hometown, therefore likely to be excellent, or croke park, 'cus i'm irish, and the croke park gigs are always brilliant.

how many languages do you speak???
there's this comment near the start: "Very sad for the fight between Rob and the Presenter&Director during the TT practice session. Unfortunately, as an italian TT fan, I read all about & I have to say Rob was wrong & the Presenter&Director was right. So..we all, as fans, payed the price: no interview bt the presenter (only 2 questions bt the girls); and that's the reason why Rob changed the words of the song at the beginning, I guess. Even if I'm not sure about the meaning of what he's saying when changed the words of the song." i recognise the girl who made it. she's a huge robbie fan, and really hard core ships robbie and gary as being romantic lovers. that notion seems way out there in the realms of 'fan fantasies' to me, but she's always seemed like a really lovely, thoughtful and well reasoned person from past comments i've seen from her, so i trust this one. it's pretty much what i remember being reported anyway.
i mean at the start - they come down the steps together and robbie's sticking close to him. he took jason's mic stand instead of his own position, and then both jason and gary pointed and sent him over to the other one!!:D

BIB: ..that's almost funny....we have a comedy show over here called "russell howard's good news" where he collects all the funny/weird/outright insane news stories from around the world and basically takes the mick out of them. i bet this will make it into it! the korean reports on the royal family are always hilarious....they do it as cartoon animations. there was one clip he showed where prince harry was a natzi, and another one showed prince phillip squeezing a woman's bum!! whatever notions they have of the royal family, it's brilliant! hillarious.
