Sit on it for a month or two and see what happens.

Invest it until I knew they weren't coming knocking for it back.

I wouldn't spend it as they would most likely realise their mistake and ask for the money back.

contact them and tell them and give it back , they would eventually realise the mistake and ask for it back .

there was a case recently when a council accidentally paid 50 grand into someones account , she was eventually done for theft as she spent it

    I would give it back.
A person is guilty of an offence if—

    (a)a wrongful credit has been made to an account kept by him or in respect of which he has any right or interest;

(b)he knows or believes that the credit is wrongful; and

(c)he dishonestly fails to take such steps as are reasonable in the circumstances to secure that the credit is cancelled.

I would put it into an account and sit tight......................don't touch it for at least two years.

Many years ago we paid some Capital Gains Tax - we paid by cheque - got a receipt through the post but they never cashed the cheque.

Didn't spend it for at least two years. A bit naughty I know but I don't feel guilty - iytwas about £1400 as I remember.

Tell them. If you steal from a millionaire it's still theft and they'll take you to court if you don't pay it back.

Plus after they refunded you, surely it'd be hypocritical not to do the same.

Contact them about it and try to get the situation cleared up. For all I know, that money could have been intended for someone else with the same name as me who desperately needs it. Even if it was just a simple human error with no real impact on anyone else, it still wouldn't be right to keep it.

Contact them, someone's made an error. It's not your money.

Yes I would be tempted to move it, and when they finally realise there's been an error give it back minus the interest. :) I think you can keep interest.

I'd definitely tell them. These things nearly always get spotted eventually, but even if they don't, it's still a criminal offence to knowingly keep money that's not yours.

Notify them and wait for them to ask for it back. Taking money from someone is wrong even if they have more money than you.

But you would only be keeping it safe, while accruing interest...

Saying this, I would probably be a bit too scared and inform the bank, then they can deal with it. :D Just thinking about the potential interest that could be built up on a larger sum of money.

I was paid twice one month when payroll providers changed and there was a huge cockup, but lots of people weren't paid at all. It wouldn't have felt right keeping it even for a short time, so paid it back as soon as I could. However, a few people who were in the same boat as me didn't and I don't think they were ever asked for it! :o

Accruing interest on £1300 amounts to diddly squat. :D
Noooooooo it's naughty no matter how much. ;-)

Keep it until you hear otherwise. Don't go out and splash it on champagne and hookers or you won't be able to play the ignorant card if they come for it

Seriously, there's being honest and there's being stupid

Why is the profit margin relevant?

If you knowingly pocket it you could be done!!

On your previous form, you'd steal it, right? Or at the very least, you'd recommend that someone else steals it...

I once had £100 put into my account completely randomly by PC World of all people.

Reported it to Barclays and never heard anything ever again.. so I just spent the money.

This was about 5 years ago :D

Might pay for our "green" coffins by then? About £52 a year if we're lucky :D:D
