UKIP: The First 100 Days

Monday 16th February at 9pm on Channel 4

Really looking forward to this.

The Mirror says
A UKIP government would spark widespread rioting and the loss of millions of jobs after Britain leaves the EU.

At least that's the prediction made in a Channel 4 docudrama aired tomorrow.

UKIP: The First 100 Days features a mix of archive footage and scripted scenes, with actress Priyanga Burford playing the part of the party's only Asian woman MP.

Nigel Farage says
It's liberal-left poppycock

But I imagine Nigel is probably cock-a-hoop because every time a TV channel tries to portray UKIP in a bad light it always backfires and increases support for them and most UKIP supporters probably wouldn't mind a bit of social unrest if that's what it takes to get the UK truly independent ;-)

They have slipped a bit in the polls recently so any publicity will help.

I wonder if this is in some way meant to "balance" out the Farage/Gogglebox programme they showed a while back.

Ofcom have had 20 complaints before it has even been aired!

I do question the wisdom of having made such a piece of television for broadcast in the run up to the election. We are less than 3 months from polling day - and this has the potential to embroil a broadcaster in a lot of strife because of the accusation of bias.

If they had made it as a drama with a fictional party seizing power - then they might have got away with it. But by making it as a drama documentary, it feels very much as if there is an agenda at work.

I am no friend to UKIP - but this does feel wrong to me.

The TV and radio can do what they like until the end of March then they are supposed to show balance in the run up to the general election.

I'm not sure I agree with this kind of docu-drama being shown in the run up to an election either.

I know it is fictional but it could be seen as Channel 4 having a bias towards/against a particular political party when they really should remain impartial.

As much as I don't agree with a lot of UKIP's policies and would never vote for them myself they are a legitimate political party which people are entitled to vote for and they should be able to be represented on TV in the same light as other political parties.

The trouble is they are not being represented in the same light as other political parties. This is almost treating them like celebrities.

I dont get why they would want to make this. Would they do David Cameron: The First 100 Days? I would rather see Monster Raving Looney Party: The First 100 Days!!

Indeed, for a party that has only MPs they sure do take up a disproportionate amount of space in the media!

I thought UKIP was the renamed Monster Raving Looney Party.

Here is a Party Political Broadcast on behalf of the UKIP Party

Where was the one for the Greens when they got their first MP?

This bit with the Asian MP just seems like filler.

Its only anti UKIP for people who don't already like them.

So far it hasn't shown people who like them anything wrong.

No it's a drama on the possible horrors that will unfold if UKIP as a serving government were to ever implement their policy.

UKIP policy is obviously to hold a referendum on EU membership. This drama just went miles off any reality scale. By all means assess the results of policy, but this is fantasy.
