Bluetooth making PC lag?

Had to do some stuff with Bluetooth a couple of days ago so, rather than using the cramped screen of a laptop, I stuck one of those BT micro-dongles into my desktop PC.
I was considering just leaving it in there permanently, as a convenient way of talking to my phone and tablet, but it seems like my PC's been lagging a bit since I plugged it in.
Am I just being paranoid or is it feasible that a BT dongle is doing something that might slow my PC down noticeably?
I've had a look at the resource-monitor a couple of times and it never shows an excessive load on my CPU, memory or HDD but my PC seems to just "freeze up" for a few seconds , quite often, since I've had the dongle plugged-in.
Also, the software for the dongle is pretty basic so there's no application to enable it or disable it easily, although I suppose I could leave it plugged-in and just enable/disable it using the device manager.
Just wondering really....
