Ars Technica have done some rigorous testing and found 36% better battery life without the battery saver feature.
Well done Project Volta

A fantastic improvement and it's not even finished software yet.
My Nexus 7 2012 version can go down to 58%/59% battery with in 24% with medium use.
Darren
50% seems like an achievable goal.
Will Android L be coming to the Moto G? I'm assuming it will, but assumption is a dangerous habit.
don't know yet. i mean there will be some. but in an effort to reduce fragmentation android now runs on 512meg of ram.
not from google. they have only released:
Nexus 5
Nexus 7 Wi-Fi (version 2, released in 2013)
The cynic in me kind of thinks they're just implementing what other manufacturers have been doing for years. Still, I'm looking forward to getting this on my Nexus 5.
i doubt it. what other manufacturers have been doing on android is putting in bigger batteries.
Not quite sure about this, the Galaxy S4 for example got a 65 hour endurance rating on GSMarena with a 2,600 MaH battery, which is just over 10% larger than the Nexus 5 which got only 40 hours.
Thats an improvement of over 50% with a 10% bigger battery. The HTC One IIRC got a 20% better battery life with the same size battery.
They are of course putting bigger batteries in these days, but there's definitely some tinkering going on too.
Not sure, they guaranteed 1 upgrade on the 3G MotoG which we got as Kitkat but who knows if they'll give another update.....
The Moto G 4G is a likely candidate for Android L so maybe they're force us to buy them by only giving the 4G owners a new update, but pure (cynical) speculation
Hopefully the Moto G variants are so similar that it's easier to give updates to all versions.

I tried Android L on my Nexus 5 but had to go back to 4.4.4. The "miscellaneous" service showing up on the battery usage was absolutely drinking up the juice at a fast rate, giving it far less battery life than the old Nexus 4. Until that bug is fixed and the preview updated, I'm sticking with 4.4.4.
As has been posted Nexus 4 is getting it as well as the original Nexus 7

I'm looking forward to it, although since i changed from giffgaff 3g to Three 3g i find the battery lasts considerably longer.
Battery tests are not that useful really. I cant remember any Nexus having decent battery life though. I am not sure Samsung did anything with the TouchWiz GS4 to improve battery life as the GPE is reported to last significantly longer.
It was confirmed on the German Motorola website or facebook page that Moto G and X will be getting the upgrade to "Android 5.0", which I assume means L.
Sounds promising, it would be a bad move for Motorola to not do this now that their brand is finally getting known again outside of the US.
The Moto G has given them a huge popularity boost and would be a shame to mess it up by not updating devices for at least a couple of years.
That's good news.
It is sort of in the same way as LTE, that often extending battery life by having more LTE idle time than it would have if was on 3G.
