2 of the cheapest videos have to be Only You-Flying Pickets (just them in a pub) and I Could Be So Good For You-Dennis Waterman (Dennis walking down a market and singing to the people there)!
I can't agree on The Flying Pickets...yes it's cheaply made but that's not necessarily a bad thing in itself. Being shot in an empty pub/working men's club it has a slightly haunting, nostalgic quality and a sense of loss which suits the song. That's actually quite brilliant.
The second video uses a lot of cut up shots which are stylistically Kitsch, something you might say about a number of these videos and I think it's deliberate rather than cheap.
Some videos help define their time though. Kiss always come across so camp and the vid makes me feel like saying put the makeup back on lads. That vid also shows how exploitative of women's images rock music was in the 80s and when you think about the criticism some female artists(Miley, Rihanna) get now for how they present themselves?
Now this is the meaning of the word of terrible. Cheap looking singers, climbing through a toilet window, dancing randomly in the midle of the street, dodgy background and some local gangster on the decks:
I think the first video is anything but nasty. It belongs to that bawdy, English working-class tradition reflected in the naughty holiday post card and kiss me quick hat. The only thing wrong with that video is it isn't quite sexy enough.
Your definition of what makes a rubbish video isn't necessarily wrong but I predict that what you describe will in future be held in great affection as reflective of an era and an attitude.
It's like something you could make in a booth at a shopping centre. What a load of shite!
I think this would be a good video if it had been made in a booth in a shopping centre. I would love to see Kim Kardashian squeezing into such an artefact. I like Kanye's cut up music at times, it is experimental and edgy but the video should be the same.
Oh my god, YES!!!! Just hideous. After the single's disaster (sold just under 400 copies in Australia in its opening week), she switched her performance song to Wannabe at AGT final show apparently. It makes you wonder if she was actually trying.
That video was just as awful. I think after Ride It didn't perform to label's expectations, in addition to her poor album sales, I think they just went for broke here or just gave up.
I think that Pixies one was filmed for Snub TV. They wanted to show it on the programme but the song didn't have a video so they rustled that up in 15 seconds or so.
I think Midge Ure must have had shares in the Pinscreen Toy company, judging by its use in this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp20I5dgrRs It's also notable for his awful Dad-dancing.

Eddie murphy feat. Michael jackson - Whatzupwitu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAcbWAxl4ws
Everything about this is terrible, from the bizarre pairing to the title to the song to the video, I know these two are not short of cash but the video looks like it was made on MS paint. Eddie and MJ are flirting with each other in the clouds and then a load of schoolboys march out and start skipping around them, At the end Eddie cant take it anymore and just grabs MJ from behind.
Two works of genius! So brilliantly cheap and cheerful videos with hilariously bad dancing BUT they were actually MEANT to be bad! That just makes them brilliant, in my books. So funny because they were soooo deliberately awful!

Absolutely agree! That version is rubbish.
The "other" version however....

What an awful video.
Oh Good God. That looks like a Smack the Pony sketch....without any jokes.
"This music career will self-destruct in five seconds", more like.

Check out his expression at the end- it looks like he's caught his private

Directed by John Landis who directed crap like An American Werewolf In London & The Blues Brothers so he'd know nothing about either horror or music.
Ha ha! It is indeed like a song from Smack The Pony!
I like one of the comments:
have looked like this Adam Ant atrocity:

I like some of his music, but this is just horrendeous.

It is quite bad but in a strange way it is probably the greatest music video of all time.
Doesn't he know IT'S RUDE TO POINT?
