I think Atlantic 252 will be kept 'christmas song' free throughout the festive period, although it is only September, so may change my mind...Perhaps I will put it to the vote to those following us on Facebook nearer the time :-)

They always played Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas and the infamous Elmo & Patsy, Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer!:D

Still loving this tribute stream and listen regularly. I think it's one of the best music streams on the web and the variety of tracks is just staggering! (Just heard Bellini Samba De Janeiro followed by Aerosmith Love In An Elevator :D)

The only grumble is that live mobile streaming is pretty much impossible on a 128kbps MP3 stream - both in terms of connectivity and monthly data allowances.

A number of stations have introduced low bitrate AAC+ alternatives which, in my experience, work really well and sound great. Is there any chance a 24k or 32k AAC+ stream could be added as an alternative to the current stream for mobile use? If so, my listenership when on the move would increase dramatically. I must stress 'alternative to' rather than 'instead of' since my wi-fi radio at home cannot decode AAC+!

That looks like it was when Charlie Wolf left the Breakfast show which was around the time they started to lose the plot and stop playing all the US billboard hits that gave them their edge over the ILR's and Radio 1 in the early days.

How did Atlantic 252 "lose the plot"????

By losing the American Songs no-one except a few Anoraks had ever heard of, the audience figures went from very low in 1990 to increase to almost 5million listeners a week in 1995!!!

Alantic 252 ceased broadcasting in 1999. RTE Radio 1 now occupies 252 LW :)

No, it's later than that. Kevin and Andrew did the breakfast show after Charlie. It's probably after Hollywood Haze's stint as 'Hold The Black Pudding', so about 1996 or 1997?

Officially it was around 2001 but the 'real' Atlantic 252 did indeed finish around 1999 when it flipped format to 'rhythm and dance'.

In stand corrected! I remember Team Talk 252 replaced Atlantic 252, though it was short-lived.

Atlantic 252 was a fantastic station until 1999 when you quite rightly point out its demise.

I remember listening during the "rythm and dance" period, up to the time they were replaced by TeamTalk 252.
