Royal Prank call, "s*** happens" says station boss.
Says it all about the attitude of the owners of the radio station?
Max Moore-Wilton, chairman of Southern Cross Media, appeared to play down the death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha three days after the prank by 2Day FM DJs Michael Christian and Mel Grieg as he spoke to shareholders in Australia.
Asked about the incident, Mr Moore-Wilton reportedly told shareholders at an AGM in Melbourne: "These incidents were unfortunate, no doubt about that.
"But in the immortal words of someone whose identity I cannot recall, s**t happens."

I don't think any of the imbeciles at 2Day FM know the meaning of the word though. They showed their colours when they promoted the male DJ involved in the prank...what a fine example of humanity.
I originally read it to mean that he said it 3 days after the incident. But apparently he made the comments today: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/media/broadcast/sxl-chair-plays-down-royal-baby-prank-as-investors-deliver-first-strike/story-fna045gd-1226744527171
To be fair, he was basically just saying that there was no way to know that woman would have killed herself. I feel no outrage.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who misread it ....
The entire station sounds like is just a pit of vipers - from those at the top to idiots like the male DJ who shamelessly accepted a promotion.
Why be so crass about it though? This guy is a professional adult...he should be capable of phrasing it better.
If there are such crass and crude people at the top of the tree, it should come as no surprise when those at the lower end of the scale behave as they do. If the reputation of this radio station is anything to go by, they are probably encouraged to do so.
Supposed to be last month but was cancelled with a new date, but cannot find further referances.
Well, he is Australian
And all Australians are like that aren't they?
She didn't commit suicide simply because of a phone call, she had serious mental health problems after numerous previous attemts to kill herself, the real question should have been how on earth she came to be employed by the hospital in the first place, was her medical history not checked?
The phrase is very dismissive though. It sounds like "Tough luck....get over it".
Agreed. While I thought the prank was crass, I never blamed the DJs for the tragic outcome. But given what the outcome was, one would naturally expect a bit of contrition. I have had the impression throughout that Mel Greig bitterly regrets what happened, not only because of the effect on her career but out of genuine remorse. The radio stations bosses seem very little troubled.
Because her attempts where not committed here ..they didn't show up on her records..she also claimed she fell and that's how she got her injuries .. So the hospital wouldn't of been aware of her previous suicide attempts ..
Yes, but the prank call could have tipped her over the edge though.
For someone so determined to kill herself, anything could have tipped her over the edge. But then I think no matter what happens, you'll always get people trying to claim her suicide was as a direct result of this call.
He wasn't promoted - he won an internal award which I thought was misjudged.
I would say he was effectively demoted as the show the call took place on broadcasts across Australia whereas he returned to a local station. Although in his position I would want to take a lower profile job.
