Leona being dropped or walking away? I think it's a bit of both. No doubt she wasn't a priority for Syco but her poor sales return since her second album won't have had a label like Syco keen to keep her on their books either.

Will be interesting to see how she performs under a new label as I don't think she's been entirely blameless for her fall from grace. She'll definitely need to show more drive if she wants to succeed. It's down to her to prove she can still be successful when she isn't the 'star' in the Island stable as she was with Syco when she won X Factor.

She's known all over the world yes, as are many, many other people. But she hasn't had worldwide success. One big hit Bleeding Love...that's what everyone thinks of when they think of Leona. Nobody thinks of Forgive Me or any of her other tracks. I think her treatment by Syco was awful, but I think they've tarnished her and I don't think this contract with Island is going to rectify things.

Not exactly, don't forget that her album was also a world wide success. Many artists have one big hit and a flop album. Leona was able to sell albums, which showed that people were interested in hearing more, in the artist, not just one song.

Alexandra Burke unsigned? Not sure where you have plucked this fictional information from.

    What label would that be?

She had worldwide success. The fact you say she never had worldwide success is just odd. It doesn't matter if Bleeding Love is the only song people remember, sales, airplay records in the States, Europe and awards suggest she had worldwide success with multiple singles other than Bleeding Love. Spirit sold 8 million, Better in Time sold over 3 million, Bleeding Love sold 9 million, Run has 2 million, Happy has sold over a million, Echo sold 1.5 million.

For someone who doesn't like Leona I find it odd you're always in threads about her.

Great news for her, Syco stamps out individuality and Island lets it flourish. Hopefully it was her decision, I think it probably was because very rarely has an X Factor artist left Syco and then been immediately signed to another massive label. I expect Island approached her and poached her right from under Simon's nose :D

Syco must be really pissed off that they won't have to lose any more money on an artist who sings well but doesn't really occupy a place in today's market.

I doubt very much if her deal at Island is anything to write home about.

At least she's definitely signed to a label unlike Alexandra Burke, who seems to be reduced to releasing third rate songs recorded in her bedroom.

What is your problem. This is a thread about Leona and her deal with Island Records. Not why you've dragged AB into this.

For the record, she has an album already recorded with production from Dre & Vidal (Mariah, Usher, Ciara), Vinylz (Jay Z), Allen Ritter (Drake), Rico Love (Beyoncé, Keri Hilson) and DJWhooKid (Snoop Dogg, J. Cole). So it's not just "songs recorded in her bedroom".

Whether the album will be released is a different question, but the album is there waiting, so she's not as unfortunate as you are trying to make out.

But at the end of the day, this is about Leona and her fantastic new opportunity with Island Records. :)

Simon has drained the best out of her, time for the next one to market.

I think this is a fantastic move for Leona. She's got so much potential and there is a market for her. People say Adele and Emeli Sande have taken her spot but there's no reason why Leona can't be up there with them. They're all unique enough to have a place in the industry.
I hope Island really do realise they have an artist here who is capable of selling millions again, she really needs fantastic treatment and care for the next album. I don't believe Leona has yet made an album to do her full justice. She's made 4 fantastic albums but I know there's so much more in her and it sounds like Island realise this too.

The truth is Syco have no idea how to handle their artists long term and they don't seem interested in putting in the work when the going gets tough. I have confidence that this is what Leona needs.

If Leona still had contractual obligations to Syco, there is no way she could have gone to another label without Syco (and Simon's) approval.

Leona was Simon's first big success with X-Factor and I'm sure he wishes her well. And I think he was probably sad at her declining career. Really. The guy isn't heartless and he is loyal. So when she told him that her new manager had secured an offer from Island UK, he gave her his blessing..

Edit: Just saw this . not quite so benign.

Not sure if she was dropped when you sign a 5 or be it say like 5 album deal it's a option by the record company and if they think you not making money you dropped.

It is the professional thing to say with the artist mutual decesion to leave.

But whether she has been dropped or not it is a scoop to join Island.

She be on a option as well for further releases. Think she has a lovely voice so good luck to her and well done.

I doubt whether Alexander Burke will be signed now. She should license her music to lesser know label if she don't want to release herself. That last song she did for charity was so old fashioned for her.

But she must have had some freedom if it is true she refused burn and we found love :o To be fair we will never know if she would have had the same success with them but she certainly had the vocal chops to do both songs justice

I'm glad she turned down Burn- that song was not right for her. Ellie Goulding's vocals suit it perfectly whereas Leona's version uses too much autotune & she doesn't need it! I think she'd have done a good job of We Found Love, though.

I'm not naive it's business. You've got a lot to learn, it's clear you're letting your personal feelings about Leona obscure your understanding of the facts. She was still a success while at Syco, so your insinuation that she was "dropped" looks a bit silly, especially when the CEO of the label is tweeting her good luck for the future. It was clearly an amicable split.

Sorry I think you do this about Alex too.

Alex has never confirmed she is signed. If you dropped from a record label you would try and sign to another stroght away have no break and give the speel mutual decision bla bla to leave and join another bla bla.

She made her demo's with bla bla but no one has taken the bait.

Trust me if she signed she would not be doing the bodyguard or doing the 'charity' record
and her PR people would get the news in the papers Alex has signed a new deal.

She even cancelled the Billie shows in the elgar room at RAH to waltz off do one song with Chaka and co. Nothing happened. Thought that s bad move to let fans down who paid for tickets so she could hob nob with Chaka. She sang one song.

LOL I would cancel UK shows after just parting with a UK label and signing with US management if I was in her position tbh

    Chaka >>>>> UK audience

It was a chance to show homage to a big act in music.

And we don't know that she's not signed she's signed with Kevin liles management and obviously someone's funding her to be in the same studio as Jay z and drake.. So hopefully she's got something

I wouldn't bother Niiiiiiik. That poster doesn't seem to be able to see past their personal feelings about Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke.

They even tried to spread fake rumours that Leona's Kew Gardens gig tickets were being sold at huge discounts, which turned out to be false.

I didn't spread fake rumours they were on those discount deals kgb or groupon thingy.

I have no personal feelings about either bit Leona seems a nice girl.

Alex has a great voice too but I sense some bs from her. She sold her tickets then cancelled to walz off to work on that show and she only sang one song where did that get her+
Let down fans who paid to see her and still not got a record deal.

Zack I think you are her mother or Alex herself.

Lol Chaka >> UK as I said before the fans who ride with Alex know that america at the time was a better move for her. To go socialise and network with people who can actually change her status in the long run

syco ruined Leona's career they think one appearance on x factor is enough to promote an album it's not you need to be doing every radio station every tv show.
I do think syco only care about olly murs and 1D now I don't think you can say Leona did 4 great albums spirit was good but the other two were half good half not.
I also think she needs to get out there and promote like she did with her first album.
joe mecelderry & matt cardle have done much better on other labels joe's 2 albums have gone gold and matt had a top 20 hit with mel c both are great singers.

I think Leona still did much better though, only Glassheart didn't go Gold. Even her last album went gold and her last single got to #3 and #1 on iTunes for weeks

I read Sparkle's post as meaning Joe and Matt have done better with labels other than Syco, rather than that they have done better than Leona per se.

That said, Joe's been with Universal for three years now and I'm pretty sure his third album (a Christmas album) outsold both Leona's third album and her Christmas album in the UK so there's no doubt it was a good move for him :)

In any event I'm delighted that Leona has signed with Universal, she's a rare talent and I think it's a great move for her to sign to an iconic label like Island Records that appreciates that :)
