The way I see it is some people just won't accept that anyone from this generation can be labeled as a legend. Beyoncé has the makings of a legend. I'm not even gonna bother saying why because there's no need. I'm not say she's one right now, but she will be in time. She's an inspiration to many aspiring singers. She's always labeled as someone people look up too. Not many from this generation are.

Some people say she has nothing on Tina Turner. Now I know she's a legend and all, but performance wise I think Beyoncé is better. Who else sings and dances live like she does? No one else do is like she does on stages. Some people need to stop being so narrow minded and stop thinking that Beyoncé can't match people from the past because she can. Some of them can't do what she does.

IMO Beyonce has a better back catalogue than Rihanna & Lady GaGa, including
    Say My Name
    Independant Woman
    Survivor
    Crazy In Love
    Irreplacable
    Listen
    If I Were A Boy
Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)
    Halo

She is an incredible singer dancer, and an amazing peformer and last night she put Gaga and Rihanna to shame.

I think in the future Bey will be remembered for her -

Crazy In Love, Single Ladies, Irreplaceable (to the elft to the left) dance routines.

Her rather select and grande back catalogue thus far. For mixing up genres and being very consistent sales wise, singles wise and performance wise very much evolves.

She offers a new style of performance. Madonna, MJ, Elvis have THEIRS and Beyonce is very much for NOW she exceeds contemporary beliefs in performance

And definitely as one of the three strongest vocalists of the current generation (P!nk and Xtina being the only other two)she uses her three octave vocals VERY well! with a soulful and fun energy!

Theres a couple of good songs from her back cataloge that she never does and are much better than half the songs mentioned.
In da club - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4XKNXMMvi4 (better than the original)
    Naughty girl - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRoHZoTQQdk
Woman like me - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afnC2Wqx60U (james bond theme styleee)
I think Halo is her best song of the ones people have mentioned

With the likes of Kath Perry - will be the first female to hit the mark in the 52-year history of The Billboard Hot 100.

Then there is RiRi with more no.1 hit singles than her, adele has the ballad scene wrapped up and GaGa, well she is just huge

Beyonce is a great performer but I everytime I see her I think 90s.
the hair swings, the "sing it with me" the booty shaking, enough.

and christ if i see "We Love Beyonce" chart on the music channels i will scream. "Q" just put TWO films on Sunday all about Bey. She's everywhere at the mo, on front of mags, adverts, etc. Smells like desperation with over saturations

She has all these artist breaking records she hasnt and she had JHud stealing her film and awards, its hard to not to think its time she retired.

well why not, she has nothing left to prove, she's not getting any younger [nor is Jay-Z], time for kids

Can any of those girls you mentioned do it on stage like Beyoncé does? NO. That's all I gotta say.

I really don't think she deserves to be classed as a legend. She's so dull on stage, does the same things over and over again and just has no stage presence and never captivates me when performing. Legends and icons are supposed to have a massive impact on music and she just hasn't....

This obviously just my opinion before others come back and claim how amazing they think she is.

If it's comparisons we're after she reminds me of Diana Ross more than anyone else. Her part of Deena in Showgirls wasn't a mistake. Beyonce's life and performance style mirrors Diana's in a lot of ways.

You can't really tell who is a legend and who isn't unless they sell the amount of the Beatles or Michael Jackson in their youth. Longevity accounts for a lot. Tina Turner is rightly regarded as a legend but only came back to real prominence in her forties and fifties as did Cher.

Successful Solo Career, Member of one of the biggest girl groups of all time, successful actress, amazing live.

Her amazingness is effortless, she doesn't need 24/7 attention to keep the public interested, her talent does that for her.

    Irreplaceable.

Tina Turner was great but she was never on B's level. Beyonce does not put a foot out of place and her voice doesn't falter whether she's leaning back til her head touches the ground or twisting her neck at 100 miles an hour, her voice stays consistent.

Well, except the time she stood on Tina's foot when they performed together ;)

I think its quite evident that Beyonce has not reached Tina's level, when they performed together EVERY review I read said that Tina gave a better performance than Beyonce.

I do not think that she is a legend anyway. A lot of her songs are repetitive such as 'Check on it,' 'Beautiful liar,' 'De ja vu' and 'Green Light.' Each of them sound similar and the videos are also quite similar. I think that she is quite talented and is probably a good live performer but I do not think that she is absolutely brilliant.

4 years ago. Not only that but Tina's career didn't even jump off until her 30s and she did not have the impact Bey had. People look at the past through rosy glasses but in terms of how much Bey's accomplished, she's already surpassed Tina in terms of performance and she's not even 30 yet.

Sorry - at least one of those is based on an old Donna Summer/Giorgio moroder number - Naughty Girl lifts heavily from Love To Love You Baby.

Same as Crazy In love uses the main riff out of the Chi-Lites' Are You My Woman - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9xsr33UD8E

It makes me laugh at how people seem to use the word 'legend' so willy nilly, c'mon Beyonce is simply not a legend! Jeeez! People don't understand the word clearly.

and??? so what if it does..shes only singing one line from it, they are still good songs..whats wrong with using a sample of a song you like, 90% of R&B and Hip Hop beats are samples from old songs..its all part of the culture.shes bringing them to a new generation
    what are you apolagising for..

    She's not a legend. She's a singer.

A good singer, perhaps even a great singer but to call her or pretty much anyone else in the music world past or present a "legend" is hyperbole plain and simple.

Do people seriously consider her a legend?! Really?!

She's not had a long enough career for a start, she's only 4 albums into her solo career. That word is thrown around far too freely lately.

In fairness you could confortably just have a DS music sub forum dedicated to hyperbole, where people call singers that have had a few good albums legends, any album that doesn't make it to number 1 a "flop" and so on.

Lady Gaga & Rihanna have the most overrated back catalogue of recent times!!! Beyonce's output shits over them

:D the fame monster Album has produced more singles of quality than ALL of beyonces releases put together, and Rihanna simply has better pop songs.

Beyonce has no signature track(not that that is important)but it's a good maker if you supposed to be a 'legend'
