Yearly Price Rise - What to Expect?
Just wondering if there have been any rumblings about the likely scale of the annual price rise this year?
I got hit hard with the last one in February with a £5.50 pm increase and am determined not to let the same thing happen again and therefore it will be a big factor in deciding if I can stay with VM or not.
Though I am still quite happy with VM in general I am finding the TV service in particular is getting barely enough use to justify it as nearly everything I watch is on Freeview. I have put it down to M+ but really it is mainly kept simply because phone and BB only is such bad value in comparison.
The difficult thing is my line rental saver finishes this September and I'm very conflicted whether to renew as it effectively ties me to VM for another year, it doesn't create a new contract but if I leave before it is up any remaining balance is effectively wasted. That said the standard monthly price of £15.99 pm is shocking
It's a tough decision and there is no doubt if I did leave VM I would miss the broadband as I think my area still has no fibre option except VM, ADSL after cable would take some getting used to....

Most are around £15 to £15.99
Sky £15.40 - Line rental saver no longer available
BT £15.99
VM £15.99 - Line rental saver £144
Taltalk £15.95
Plusnet £15.95
So to be fair they are all highly priced but with the 12 month saver VM are the cheapest I think
Yeah I know it isn't just VM that do it but I still think it's a horrible con and just blatant profiteering especially since in the case of the original phone provider BT the lousy old lines poor customers are 'renting' have probably been in the ground for 50 years plus, barely had anything done to them and probably made millions in dubious rental charges.
RE: the line rental saver seems to have gone up a LOT, the last two years I had it, it was only £120, still cheaper than by the month but still annoying that it's gone up too >:(
Definitely think I'll hold off renewing till Feb next year so I can leave if they give me a big increase again...
With freeview, Netflix and prime i think i'll find enough to keep me busy.
I was very annoyed by this as I do not think it is right to make a customer an offer and then revoke it AFTER the customer agrees to it. >:( I have taken the representatives name and fully intend to make a further call to complain about it and see if I can get the original offer or if not another one of equal value. Needless to say I didn't renew the LRS, will leave it till I call them again which I intend to do soon. If they are not willing to honour their offer I won't renew LRS and will seriously consider leaving when my contract is up.
Very poor customer service IMHO.
The agent could have made a genuine mistake. You were calling up for the line rental saver option. so the Netflix would have been a nice bonus. Seems silly not to continue.
Perhaps I was a bit harsh, I don't want anyone to get into trouble over it. But on the other hand I don't like being messed around and it isn't the first time VM have done this either (promise something and then say, on closer inspection, that it isn't available for whatever reason).
Perhaps I might feel better about it if I felt I was getting value for money with my current package but while the broadband is fast and faultless, the TV (on M+) is barely any more than I get on Freeview and if anything Freeview has the best quality on HD (possibly due to use of 1080P). Finally the phone is mostly just a means of receiving unwanted nuisance calls, as I already get plenty of free minutes on the mobile it's largely pointless.
Anyway, I have till the 24th Sept to decide if I want to renew the LRS so I'll have to think about it carefully.
Actually it is not. Not if you compare like with like.
I was in the same boat, TV XL and hardly used the subscription channels so a quick call and an offer brought me BB 50 meg, weekend and evening calls and TV M+ for £34. The only channel I will miss is SKY 1 HD (Stella and Trollied - but that's it!) but I still have Sky 1 in SD. Still got film 4 HD and 5 HD.
Before I did this I had a good look round. Could have just gone with Freeview and say TalkTalk broadband at about £18, but that was only 3 Mb, and certainly no faster than 6. If you looked at the fibre optic (max 28 Mb) prices they then jumped to around £28. Makes the VM offer with TiVo, 50 Mb and extra channels a bargain.
So I have already made my mind up that if they add another payrise in the next 6 months I am dropping the TV and Phone as I have Tivo and the XL package which I rarely watch. I only use Tivo for series links and watch them at my leisure. So if I did get rid I can use the internet to watch stuff anyway.
As for the phone, apart from my parents nobody phones me! Most of my calls, inbound and outbound are made with my inclusive minutes on my Mobile with EE.
In short I have a TV that gets freeview and a mobile that has unlimited minutes.... So really do not need Virgin.
...so give yourself a pay rise now by dropping TV and landline now. Stop wasting money.
I can afford it, but saying that I am fed up with the constant price increases. I expect one a year, but I have had about 5 in the past 30 months or so.
That like I said before is the reason I would probably cancel it. Although yes I am wasting money by having stuff I don't need.
So just waiting to hear back what the cost will be per month with just phone and broadband.
I was going to phone but really cant be bothered to be put on hold and get passed around.
After around 15 minutes I am now left with 100mb broadband and Talk weekends phoneline. And the cost per month will be £27.
A lot better than the £87 I was paying for Sky sports and XL TV included
I am the same I cannot be arse*d calling them to be passed around. Do you have an email address I can send and email to. Thanks
Now i've got my new smart tv I will seriously consider whether I want to just go back to broadband when my sky sports season ticket runs out. I'm using netflix on the tv rather than box because it runs 10x faster and I'm watching the freeview HD channels as they are in full HD.
No in the sense I have freeview built into my TV, seeing most of what I watch is on freeview, not missed it in that regard.
Have I missed the Tivo, honestly, just a little. The only reason for this is I can't record anything. But that is no big hassle as the various catchup websites are a godsend. Plus I have a chromecast to beam content to my TV.
I will say I am slightly missing the sports channels as I love my football, but I know plenty of sites I can watch football for free. Ok not the best quality, but still watchable.
