Good call though.
Shame I've only got a HD TV but no blu-ray DVD player.
Get a PS3
If I bothered to pay my licence fee I would be very angry about that
Here's a link of how much it is to buy online elsewhere

The Life On Mars Bluray discs should be the same as 99.9% of all other BD and be 1080p.
If it was filmed in HD it should be instantly noticeable.
If its upscaled SD then we are being ripped off.
I'm sure if it was filmed in HD that it would be 1080p.
1080i is simply the current accepted standard for HD in the UK.
But other countries have 1080p so no reason for us not to have it eventually
£15.95 Zavi.
I usually use Find-DVD as appears another poster does to, there's http://www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk/index.php which is OK if you want to look at Region 3+.
Torchwood was apparently filmed in HD, but that isn't Full HD either, they are 1080i, check it out for yourself.
Are the Torchwood Bluray discs 1080i?
I assumed that most current HD material was filmed on 35mm then an HD master was produced from that in the same way older tv shows and all movies are done.
I suppose the budget could force them to use HD cameras instead of film cameras - but then when we get even better HD in the coming years Torchwood and other shows will be as limited as old shows made on standard VT are now for Bluray
I'll probably get a blu-ray DVD player at some point.
I dont play games either but the PS3 is far better than any standalone Bluray player and is likely to be for quite some time
Hopefully tomorrow I will start to erase the memory of the horrible US version
Sorry, but the US version is very FAR from horrible. And in a thread about the BluRay release of the UK show, way to take a completely gratuitous shot at something that has nothing to do with the BluRay release.
Let us know what the quality is like.
Apparently its mentioned on the box that its not genuine HD so it will be interesting to see how good upscaled material is.
Hope all the dvd extras are included too
Life on Mars (and Ashes to Ashes) were only shot in SD - probably super16 film.
HD Drama is shot progressive (film or HD video formats) at 1080 25 frames per second, but as UK HD channels are only 1080i graphics and effects are usually overlaid interlaced to ensure they don't flicker on broadcast. Therefore most UK HD drama will end up 1080i at 25 frames per second. Blu-ray does not support 1080 progressive at 25 frames per second, only 1080p at 24 frames per second.
In the US, film for TV broadcast (including sitcoms) are shot on 35mm at 24fps and converted to 30fps using 3:2 pulldown for broadcast, so the originals are already progressive 24fps ideal for HD blueray transfer. Ironically HD-DVD did support progressive 1080p25.
So I doubt Life on Mars will be an sd release as a poorer quality Bluray set than the dvd would hardly be a good advert for the format.
Reports elsewhere are that the quality is substandard for Bluray but it is at least upscaled.
It's still 1080p though.
The PQ is a 2 out of 5 though...really poor.
Regards
Yes I got them on day of release (after getting £10 each back on the SD version at Blocks) - with Sendit's £12.89 each price it wasn't that costly to upgrade really. Not got around to watching them yet, have bought loads of stuff so I'm a bit behind
