Not heard any myself. Bit odd for a pop station not to represent the dominant pop sound of '85-'89.
Heard Donna Summer - This Time I Know It's For Real and Kyle - Better The Devil recently.

Also, interesting to note, a little of many genres is considered focused programming, whereas a lot of many genres is regarded as unfocused. Methinks people are projecting their own idea of what is good music and what is not onto what stations play. Mostly songs that you like is focused, less songs that you like is unfocused.

It does seem weird when there has been over 50,000 singles released over the years, and hundreds of thousands of album tracks, that some stations focus on such small playlists.
Yet when you look at the figures for the Breeze, you soon realise why focussed playlists are exactly the right thing to do to get an audience.

Heart's problem is it doesn't play dad rock for grumpy middle aged men who yearn for the good old days when radio came from a ship.
Well, as it turned out, I randomly picked the Jack FM with the smallest playlist. Jack FM South Coast played 1042 unique tracks, whilst Jack FM Hertfordshire played 2198 unique tracks.

So it seems there is a reason why Jack FM is lauded for having more variety.

Mapperley, now I know you are joking.

The Breeze South West - 29,000 reach in a TSA of 711,000 and played 927 unique tracks in the past 30 days.

The rest of the Breeze network - 35,000 reach in a TSA of 979,000 and played 953 unique tracks in the past 30 days.

Hardly getting much of an audience. And consider The Breeze has come off DAB, I get the feeling that there won't be much of a Breeze for much longer.

Great Donna Summer tune but Better The Devil was released in Spring 1990.

What about Mel & Kim, Rick Astley, Princess, Hazel Dene, Brother Beyond, Bananrama, Sonia, Sinitta, Jason Donovan to name a few. Some of The Biggest 80s acts on the planet.

Not PWL, but has Bros featured? Weren't the biggest selling boy band in the 80s?

Im sure we were told that Stock Aitkin and Waterman tracks don't sit right with the Heart brand...

I had a quick listen today and the same tracks played today as yesterday so dont see the point in them doing the two days. Also golds 70s weekend once again playing the same songs shame really as the stations could be so much better.

Apologies. I misread the numbers on your post.

Make a note. I don't apolgise very often!

I think what it does show, though, is that it's not just down to the number of unique tracks, but the way in which they're presented. Heart - on roughly the same number of tracks - pulls in a much bigger audience.

More likley that promoting Pete Waterman tracks doesn't sit right with Richard Park.

I've loved the "80s Weekend" although a few of my favs I'm sure I must have missed:-

Eric Carmen - Hungry Eyes, Whitney - I Want To Dance With Somebody, UB40 - Red Red Wine, USA for Africa - We Are the World, Lillo Thomas - Sexy Girl, Dayton - Sound Of Music, Wet Wet Wet - Sweet Little Mystery, Rufus and Chaka Khan - Ain't Nobody, Howard Jones - Look Mama, Nik Kershaw - Dancing Girls, Thompson Twins - King For A Day (Mark Sadler loves though last few too).

Overall its been a great couple of days.

I can't wait until Heart is on FM and Gold too.

I was wondering about this, Heart seem to be a main player in Henley's 80's Rewind Festival, so obviously Heart Thames Valley have been there live this weekend, with local news read from the festival grounds, travel news etc and live link ups to Henley.

Obviously once the clock struck 12 Noon all local references and referencing the festival ended. How much of this weekend's programming has been influenced by this? Was the festival mentioned on other Heart regions or on Heart Netwowrked?

It is duly noted.

The music is always about 50% of any station's ratings, and 50% of it's problems. Getting the music right, and keeping it right, week in week out as new singles and albums are released, It's one reason why every station or group has their own Head of Music. Rewards for getting it right are great ratings, and potentially, good revenue. Getting it wrong, will make recovery of any kind, very difficult.
