laptop touchpad not working

anybody got any ideas why my girlfriends laptop touchpad has stopped working? its just suddenly happened,but if you plug in a mouse,that moves the cursor around the screen fine with no problems.pull it out and once again it just wont move.

    Theirs a function key to disable it that's probably been hit look in the manual but its probably obvious if you look at the key board hold down FN key then tap F8,F9,or F10.

    Or else there's a button above the keypad that does the same job.

    Mine has a little button with a hand symbol on it which allows you to switch touchpad on and off. It's next to the on/off switch
