    Hi,

    Presumably its a USB-RS232 lead?

    What manufacturer is the lead?

I will point you in the right direction.

Not sure if this is a related problem, but I also used a Dell (Latitude) laptop to do the update. The problem that I got was that when I tried to run the update none of the com ports were recognised. When I looked in device manager I found that no com ports were enabled on the machine.

The way round this was to press F2 at the start of the boot process and to enable a com port in the bios settings.
