Presidential debate time

For the first Presidential debate, at 9PM in the USA (Some sites said it was ET some said it was EST) I checked several web sites and ensured that the debate started at 3am.

So when I started watching at 2:55 I was sorry to see that I had missed a lot of it because it started at 2am.

So for the second debate, same time 9pm, I again checked the sites again they all said 3, but I ignored them and at 2 am I started looking for a web site to watch the debate, and found one at about 2:05 and I had missed only 5 minutes.

Again today I have checked carefully, making sure I specify British Daylight saving time, and 9pm EST and ET, and again I get the start time for us in Brtiain as 3pm.

In fact I am completely unable to get a single web site which says 9pm debate time is 2am over here. Yet I know it is because I have experienced it before, twice. There is even a question on Yahoo marked as correctly answered about what time here is 9pm over there and it says 3am. Garbage, but yahoo answers usually are.

So why is it that all the world's web sites are wrong? Obviously it is actually me, but what am I doing wrong? 9pm in New York, what time in Bristol England? I know the debate will start at 2 am so any other watchers please note. I don't watch on TV because of others so watch on the web using headphones. I don't like using headphones for the TV.

We are five hours ahead of New York, so a debate starting at 21:00 will be at 02:00 here.

Has this possibly got something to do with the deviation between BST and GMT?

I'm a cricket fan and find that Cricinfo give all their time in GMT which is often an hour out.

ET and EST is five hours behind us, except for any variance between putting the clock forward for 'summer' hours. For a couple of weeks, we are only 4 hours apart. A few years ago, they also postponed putting the clocks back until sometime in November, so again there was only a 4 hour time difference.

OK thanks for those replies. So all the web sites, and Yahoo answers, saying that 9pm over there is 3 am here are wrong.

I thought it must be me. Perhaps they all get their info from the same place and that place is wrong.

I too remember from boyhood that NY is 5 hours behind us. I expect thay change to daylight saving time on the same day as we do. That would mean that we are only four hours ahead, for about five hours.

I find http://www.timeanddate.com the best for checking times out as it warns you when Daylight saving times need to be taken into consideration for the specific place you are wanting the time for.

If you live in the UK you could have watched them on the BBC News Channel.
They would have given the correct times for the broadcast (BBC News Special).

If you missed the beginning then it has a two hour catch up for live streaming (you need a TV licence for that).

Or you could wait until it was uploaded to iPlayer
