I dont see why they cant have a combination of both (Moneypenny/Q etc + tough Bond). I thought the 60's feel was more to do with the fact it was the 50th anniversary. I'm not sure future films will have this.

Very much this^^^ My only real problem with Skyfall is that it nods to the past of the series so much it's head nearly falls off, that won't be such an issue in future.

That is of course dependent on the scripts and the direction the Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson want to take the franchise.

Chatting at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival (and the news comes directly from a press release issued by the Doha Film Institute), Neal Purvis said, when asked if he planned to do more Bond films, "we're very happy to have done five Bond movies. I think we've gotten it to a good place. I know that John Logan and Sam Mendes have come up with a plot for another one, which takes the pressure off because these films take up a lot of time".

    Mendes possibly to return, then?

Well that's true, the fact is they HAD to nod to the history with this one and they did (and went a bit OTT with it IMHO), in future they don't have to, so you might get one or two little nods per film in future, and not much more.

I think you've nailed it. Circle is now complete.

:) I meant with the last sentence I'm not sure they'll have the 60's feel in future films, but they'll still keep the "tough" Bond and he won't be as suave. Thats how Craig plays him (very well), just because they've slowly been adding traditional elements doesnt mean, imo Bond will suddenly became camp and jokey in his manner a la Moore.
Look at Casino Royale, it was actually really funny (again imo) but had a serious and deadpan tone at the same time.

Javier Bardem was hilarious as the "baddie". He was the lovechild of David Walliams and the Shut That Door guy.

Pure guess but films in general are released within 3 months of coming out of the cinema. I would say it's likely to be April-May time

went to see it FINALLY today .....

mendes does a precision job on this, directing this up the wazoo and and makes this as shiny as it could, but in turn it's as different as CASINO ROYALE was to QUANTUM OF SOLACE!

bold, beautiful and dazzling in equal measures ..... but it's almost TOO polished!

and dare i say it ..... maybe OVER DIRETECTED a tad!

and perhaps a bit more on "silva"'s backstory .....

one part i wasn't so enthused about
bond's reveal from "death", handled far too suddenly, and would have been better used as flashbacks while he was talking to M in her appartment!

have bond be revealed in the shadows in her apartment first, then the flashbacks ..... STILL in the shadows, then the final scene would have been bond revealing himself in the mirror from ..... THE SHADOWS!

and maybe the fight in the komodo dragon pit could have been more fun

and i'll probably have to watch it agin to see the connection between PATRICE and SEVERINE - maybe not

    but those are minor quibbles

everyone plays their parts magnificently, with a stout, but still a hardbastard bond .....
how DOES he get on that train :D
and a bad guy so enigmatic, you can see it LITERALLY DRIPPING from him, and a finale that's stunning and sad at the same time!

my first evaluation of SKYFALL, is it is a wiley and stealthy beast, that's sumptious to see, not lacking in tension ..... and a lot of throwbacks to the past bonds as usual!

a worthy entry into the collection

yeah, i WILL see it again, just to see him
    getting INTO the train :D

i'm probably gonna be ridiculed here but I don't know what all the hype is about this film, i felt it was very average film and certaintly didn't feel like a bond film for me, its was more a "M" film than bond, if anything it felt more a jason bourne film
, the only good part of the film is the last 20 minutes, it's a shame as i felt even QoS was better than this film, and thats saying something, hopefully they'll step it up next time

The producers can't win, can they? :p

What did you want to see then different from QoS, I mean for me it was very much a return to form.:confused:

No I agree totally. I too doubt very much history will repeat itself exactly again.

Even as a Bond fan, a Mendes fan and a fan of the acting talent in this movie, it has to be said that the film IS overrated. That being said, I did very much enjoy it, Daniel Craig is a frigging awesome James Bond! Much prefer Craig’s gritty performance and I think he is vastly underrated as an actor too. The running length is bum-numbingly long and there are a few moments I thought could have been cut. The plot is very average and there are numerous plot holes (why take ‘M’ to Skyfall?! :S) and the product placement is painfully blatant in the story “They’re in that black Audi” and the reference to the V.W. Beetles *cringe* but the action more than makes up for that. I don’t think anything topped the opening car/bike/train chase in the entire film though. I felt Thomas Newman’s theme was good for the tender, more intimate moments of the plot (that ending instrumental for example) but I felt his action scores lacked the adrenaline of David Arnolds. I liked Adele’s theme song though and I'm not usually a fan of hers.

I found the acting top stuff, good to see Judi Dench getting some good stuff to sink her teeth into (easily her best performance as M since 'GoldenEye'' imo), but for me the star turns were Craig as Bond and Javier Bardem as Silva who was brilliantly camp, if slightly underused. I also take back what I said about Ben Whishaw. He’s a good actor. There’s also plenty of funny lines and quips in there (I loved the “bloody big ship” line and M’s comment about Bond’s garage “I’m not hiding in there, if that’s what you’re thinking!” :D) and it does feel like old school Bond mixed with the reboot without going down one extreme or another. Thought Sam Mendes did a brilliant job with the directing and cinematography – top stuff, looked great (I’d let him direct me taking a shit… He’s that good, he could make it classy). I’d be happy for him (or Martin Campbell) to return for the next film.

My only niggles with the film are:
    - Q dressed up as a geek?! No, just no! It felt too stereotypical imo. I had no problem with him being a tech whizz/genius etc but does he really need the cardigans, glasses and rain coat?! I’d have kitted Whishaw out like he is in BBC’s ‘The Hour’ (I don’t watch but I’ve seen the promo shots) because after all Q is meant to be a head of department, I feel he should have a sharp boss like image to him no matter what his age. In Skyfall he looked like the love-child of Brains from Thunderbirds…
    - Didn’t like all the tech-talk and the way it was used to drive the plot. I didn’t mind the hardrive stuff or the realisation that most attacks these days can be done from a computer, but I didn’t like that computers were used to drive the story forward (Silva escaping, the trail to Skyfall etc). It’s been done countless times in recent years and felt like lazy writing. Plus the tech-stuff spoken by Q went way over my head as I’m no computer geek/nerd.
    - I didn’t like the gunbarrell being at the end – if you can’t make it work at the start of the movie, then don’t include it. It feels weird and out of place at the end.
    - I also had a problem with the continuity of the DB5. Since when did it become gadget-laden in the reboot timeline? I can understand if it gets rebuilt following its destruction in Skyfall with Q adding the necessary gadgets, but it came out of nowhere here :S I have no problem with the car having gadgets or Bond using them, but I assume that we as viewers are supposed to assume that this has happened to the car off-screen since Bond acquired it in ‘Casino Royale’? :S
    - Finally, as with the previous two Craig Bonds, it felt like it was all set-up for what is to come (i.e. getting Moneypenny and Q back, the return of the old office etc). It felt very by-the-numbers to me, like the writers had to tick certain things off.

Plot holes, my niggles and blatant product placement aside though I thought it was a very good film and certainly one of my favourites of the year. Is it the best Bond film though? No not imo, nor do I think its Craig’s best. ‘Casino Royale’ is still the top Danny Craig outing for me. Good to see the film smashing the Box Office’s back door in though… I loved the set-up at the end though and can’t wait to see where they take it next. 8/10

I'm surprised there hasn't been more comparisons with TWINE ,

both have a very long pre-credits action scene which is prob the best part of both movies .
Both feature a revenge plot against M .
Both are directed by directors more familiar with drama than action .
and both villains flirt outrageously with Bond ( ;) )

On Friday in the US it passed the $200 million mark and in regards to global takings it's now the 52nd highest grossing film in box office history with $708 million. Not bad for a film that's quite clearly split people right down the middle.

Saw it at last today, at the IMAX in Waterloo. It was a fantastic experience! Beautiful to look at, immersive sound, and a great film.

With the exception of Casino Royale, the thing that has been lacking from most Bond films in the recent past has been genuine tension and a sense of jeopardy. This had both of those; it was exciting and as close to a big-budget episode of Spooks as Bond is ever likely to be.

Really hope Mendes comes back for the next one. Can't wait to see it!

When will skyfall be out on dvd?

The cinema-dvd window is 17 weeks, which would mean the earliest it could come out is February 25th, though it may be a few weeks after that.

I saw Skyfall a month back and really enjoyed it. A few people have problems with the last third but I liked how it was different, it felt more personal.

As the Aston Martin that Bond won from Dimitrios in the poker game in Nassau was a left-hand drive with registration plate 56526, whilst the one in the garage in London was a right-hand drive with registration BMT 216A, I don't think we as viewers are supposed to assume that it is the same car at all. I think we are supposed to assume that it is a nod towards Goldfinger in the same way that the nods towards all the other Bond movies were incorporated.

The standard period between Cinema and DVD/Blu Ray release is 17 weeks as JCR said, the only exception to this rule is Disney who managed to shorten this window to 12 weeks, much to the annoyance of cinema chains the world over.

I agree, it was more of a knowing wink to the audience rather than it being an attempt at following some kind of continuity between the films. The only continuity that is valid in the Daniel Craig films so far is Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall. And anyway, since an unspecified amount of time seemed to have passed between Quantum of Solace and Skyfall, who is to say that the Daniel Craig Bond didn't at some point acquire a gadget laden Aston Martin? This is NOT a plot hole.

Indeed. Apparently it's up to $869m worldwide now. (Go Craig )

Obviously splitting an enormous amount of people right down the middle.
